ack-ack
After the eagerly anticipated evening goose flight got cancelled for pathetic reasons I got the raving hump and decided to head out with rod, dog and eight left over black lug to a local mark as the conditions were perfect for a few spikeys. Lots of nuisance weed about so I went down to one rod and concentrated on keeping the line weed free. I decided to double worm at 60 yards on a pennelled pulley. After a short while I got a slack liner so took up the slack but it was a job to make line. It transpired there was a poly bag round my mainline but when this got clear of the breakers it became evident that there was still something hanging on. After a bit of a to and froe I walked down and beached a plump lip hooked Bass of about five pound. I didnt have the heart to take it as I only usually keep the ones that are damaged. It went back okay and I got the last two worms on and out there. Ten minutes later whilst shaking weed off the line and walking back to my tripod there was a very positive take and I nearly smashed my self in the face with the rod. He gave a good account for his self on a lightish rod and I beached him with a bit of wave assistance. I've only kept a very small proportion of what I've caught this year so I decided this one was coming home. It went a touch over five pound on the scales at home. I removed two big fillets and boiled up the head, bones and liver for the dogs. It took longer to pick the meat from the bones than it did to fillet it but they love it with rice and fish stock. Nothing is wasted. Best brace I've had from that spot for a good few years.
