Ran Out of Ammo

Well, after two of us driving around the Northamptonshire countryside separately on Saturday looking for birds only to find the best offering produced 4 woodies and a feral between us I couldn't help but sneak off for another drive yesterday. There seemed to be a lot more birds showing in this wind so I made a note of a couple of likely looking places and went for a look today whilst my Mrs went shopping with her sister.

I wasn't expecting too much with such strong winds and had to go back home because I'd forgot my phone which was annoying and then had Peterboro Game phone up wanting to make a collection as soon as I'd got all my kit set up. Luckily they will come tomorrow instead.

I managed to find a flightline on some low ground over some disced stubble with my back to the wind and sun so didn't have to suffer my hide getting blown away although the brambles on the stealth net were damned annoying. The birds were actually feeding on some fresh stubble next door that I haven't got permission on but my plan worked a treat and they came in well.

The flightline was about drying up as I got down to my last handful of cartridges out of the 100 I took with me. There was some quite awkward shooting as the birds often skirted around the pattern and then when shot pulled further birds that way. I had to keep clearing up the outer reaches to bring them nearer. Good news is the wind seems to have stopped any problems with flies.

I ended up with 57 birds and a freezer that's bursting at the seams now. Peterboro Game will be more welcome than ever tomorrow.

Well done Andy, great bag :good::good: This year has been a total disaster for me. My biggest bag was 20 :o Typical as I got geared up for lots of reloading  I shouldn't think I've fired off more than 150 carts at the pigeons this year

You wouldn't believe how much time I've put in this year though. I've had more than my share of bad days but just keep persevering. I'm fortunate to be self employed and work has been such that I can blag plenty of days off (unpaid of course).
