Big Mat
Evening all, Who on here uses a 3 1/2 inch chambered over under? I'd like to hear about any of the 3 1/2s that are avalible, good and bad! I'm half pondering a change to one due to getting sick of my auto! I know i could use a 3" over under but i'd like the ability to use 3 1/2 as the gun will mainly be used on the foreshore! thanks mat

strangford wildfowler
What about mini magnums they work just aswell as 3" and 3 1/2" which means you could get away with a 2 3/4" chambered gun? I'm fairly sure that is a lead load. As seen as we have to use non toxic for wildfowl here in england i dont think i'll be using those! strangford wildfowler
Sorry mate I was thinking more down the lines that you could save yourself a few hundred quid by picking up a cheap o/u for under £300 or so.

It was jamming every couple of shots on the clays, that was using 70mm gamebore 28gram 7.5s! Must have jammed up 30 times and i only had 100 clays! Tested it round the farm with them 3" homeloads of mine and it worked fine,

fenntay
Mat I converted from a auto to a camo browning 425 waterfowl 31/2", first thing I did was change the recoil pad to a kickeeze trap pad, Mainly due the solid flat pad that the gun came with I found I was mis mounting the gun ,when snap shooting causing excessive recoil even with light loads, the difference now with the new pad totally different . I only use kicks chokes or briley chokes and fitted a hi viz neon green front sight, I shoot eley lightning steel 3" and remmie 3 1/2" & Winnie dryloc 3 1/2" without to much bother recoil wise now, I've shot it since last October without a problem, I don't miss the auto stripping it down after been out on the mud the jam ups . I hope this helps
kennett
I have a mate that has a maxus, semi auto 10 and a 3 1/2" 425 waterfowl. He nearly always ends up using the 425 and gets cracking results flighting on the foreshore using homeloads and stupid tight chokes!

kent
I should recommend taking a very careful look at what the 3" 12 can do and widen your choices, especially if you re-load. There isn't very much in it can do that the 3" wont except give a whole heap of extra recoil and cost. After a few seasons of 3 1/2" super mag 12's I shall be discontinuing their use once my stocks are all used up and I use a gas op auto. If you want a good heavy goose shell go to a ten or even an eight IMO

If you want a good heavy goose shell go to a ten or even an eight IMO I do load my own kent, i'd like a 3 1/2 so i have the ability to use the big heavy goose loads if needs be. I would like a 10 or 8, but i think i'd struggle swapping between guns depending on whether i go out for geese or not so would just like one gun i can use. Yildiz make a 3 1/2 inch side by side, to throw another in the mix. I have looked at it, but already got one side by side which sees occasional foreshore use. Or buy this http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/260915-beretta-xtrema-2-mc-12-gauge/ If i change guns i won't be getting another auto!
