Vipa
My thoughts exactly, huntsman, DB has not done anything that any self respecting man should do-knighthoods are like chocolate money these days -woman in our village got one for working in our tiny library for 25 years-lack of ambition I would say But any NORMAL self respecting man wouldn't have the eyes of the world on him and therefore would have absolutely no effect or impact... DB does. He is a great ambassador for Britain now and that status has now eclipsed the football carreer.. Good on him... he deserves it,
la bala
I definitely concur with that statement - too many career politicians get a gong for having screwed over the populace never having worked in a real job. David Beckham may not be academically gifted in the traditional manner, but he has made himself and his family rich by using the talents he was blessed with, his relationship with his wife has meant he has been in the public eye more than most other footballers but regardless of the celebrity status he is bringing his children up (reasonably) out of the limelight. Personally I don't like the elevated status footballers are credited with these days but for someone who is "thick as two", to quote someone else, David Beckham has an uncannily accurate ability to calculate complex mathematics involved in judging the distance, speed, power and trajectory of a spherical object in motion and how an impact on said object will affect each of these elements! good post, like it. aris
He may well be a good guy, still married, gives to charity - but don't alot of people do the same within their means? IMHO the whole honours thing is a farce. They put in a few celeb honours in there to mask the fact that the majority of these honours to go civil servants just doing their jobs, or political donors. Milkfloat
I don't think any footballer should be knighted. They are far too well rewarded for what they do and do not really provide benefit to the country as a whole. it is just a way to get teh public on side and show the Royals touch with the common man. However, saying that, if you have to give one to a footballer, old Goldenballs is probably the best candidate.
Fuji Shooter
Well if you can give one to a man on a bike you can give one to Beckham.
bicykillgaz
depends what hes actually been knighted for, if its his charity work then fair play but if its football its a joke.

bruno22rf
I fail to see what effect or impact that DB has on our nation, Vipa, the guy has nothing to give now that his football career is over-do you really imagine that he has any worth as an Ambassador for our country ? He is a walking billboard for cosmetics and a Mercenary Mannakin .
castletyne
What he does is primarily for himself he could easily drop out the limelight But then the millions would stop coming in

whitey10765666
He should have a footballhood not a knighthood, save them for the armed forces, for service to the monarch and country.
shaun4860
He should have a footballhood not a knighthood, save them for the armed forces, for service to the monarch and country. Where did you stand on Chris Hoy Bradley Wiggins Mary Peters Kelly Holmes Tanni Grey-Thompson Seb Coe Henry Cooper Gordon Richards Henry Cecil Jackie Stewart Stirling Moss Jack Brabham Frank Williams? The list goes on and on, If you disagree just because its Beckham thats wrong, if its all sportsmen/women your arguement starts to stand up However.... If you're only going to give them out to members of the armed forces, how do you work out who gets one? Whilst our armed forces do a fantastic job in general, do they all deserve a knighthood? What about the RNLI?, they do their job/risk their lives without pay, as do mountain rescue That list also goes on and on. In general those that decide who gets what get it mostly right, there is always going to be the bad apple that sneaks through, but until someone can come up with a foolproof way of doing it, then its not bad the way it is
tigger
He had a big hand in getting the Olympics to come to this country also, he does a lot of charity work probably more than any footballer of his generation and could just sit back and do nothing but he does a lot to promote this country also so I believe he deserves it, but there are others who probably deserve it more..... Guest rimotu66
Oh fer sake, its almost as bad as him getting a personality award, I doubt Sam Lowes (WORLD Supersport champion) or his brother Alex BRITISH Superbikes champion will get one , what about Tom Sykes WORLD Superbike champion, Scott Redding (2nd place MotoGP 2 World championship). Ok so I'm biased but how do these over paid primadonnas get so much attention?

FalconFN
What about the angry, pee-stained drunk Barry 'the Cheese' McNotreal the world champion tiddly-winks and dwyle flunking champion? Ok, he's not a real person, but the point is it is often a matter of scale and not just personal achievement that makes someone stand out.
