jamie101
im new to the clay pigeon shooting scene, ive been about 3 times so far and i love it! my licence is in the post and i have a 3 shotgun cabinet already fitted in my bedroom, i was just wondering if any of you guys could recomend any first timer guns? i have a very small buget of around £300 i know its not alot of money to be picky but i would like a 12g over/under single trigger with ejectors, i used an old BSA 600 last weekend, it was ok but i think the barrels were a little short, i think they were 26'', im a big lad and someone told me that was realy a skeet gun and that i need 30'' barrels at least? also on shooting the BSA i have had ringing in my right ear since sunday, like a div i havent been wareing ear protection, sound stupid but i like to hear the crack of the gun when it goes off! do any of you guys not wear ear protection, or should i stop being an idiot and get some? thanks in advance for any advice guys
Subaru_sti5
You would be able to find a nice baikal for around that price which would be a good start. Get some ear defenders!!!!!! :-)
bighit1985
I'll be the first but I doubt the last in what I say, stop being an idiot and wear some ear protection. Your hearing and eye sight are 2 things you can't replace in life. So don't take the risk!!! Second in my opinion it doesn't matter the budget you have, a gun will go bang (so long as it's working properly) whether you spend £300 or £20,000. But what is important is the gun fit a well fitted gun will help you be more consistent with your shooting. I thought my gun fitted well and shot ok with it. Went and had a gun fitting and only needed the stock lengthened by 1/2 inch and since then have shot better and more consistent. Get the gun that fits you and you like and is in your budget! Put your location on profile and maybe a member locally could help you.

Subaru_sti5
Give it a go but don't rush into buying it if it doesn't feel right in your hand and please wear some ear protection.

fenboy
Any hearing protection is better than none , for you budget I would recommend you send Wabbitbosher off here a PM if anyone can get you a decnt gun for £300 it will be him !! HDAV
Its all about fit and baikal dont fit alot of people. £300 will get you something dont rush to buy, have a couple lessons and try plenty of guns out. Unfortunately at £300 your going to get best value used from a private sale rather a dealer and Caveat emptor....... Wabbitbosher and Flazz are dealers who have some bargains so you may get lucky. Will you be shooting clays or pigeon or what? You will find a lot of 26/27/28" guns for that money and fewer 29" plus but they are out there keep an eye out for Lanber, Laurona, Winchester, Miroku (probably over budget) and a few other makes. Fortunately guns aren't like cars and they will last a lifetime with little maintenance, but learn what to look for and check for sloppy actions, damaged ribs and other expensive repairs. Also parts can be scarce for some of the less popular makes. Oh and always always wear ear protection if your ears are still ringing you may have already done irreparable damage and any ground who lets you shoot without it should be shut down. RAMMER BURT
were are you shooting clays with no ear defenders?
Gordon R
There are guns to be had for your budget. Chris - a shooting mate - bought a Miroku for £30. I will admit to being sick as a pig when he told me. Nothing wrong with Baikal, although they tend to be a bit short in the stock. Nothing a £10 recoil pad won't fix. I know a guy who bought an old pitted webley SxS for £75 it got lapped out was still in proof dealer offered him £1200 for it on the spot when he measured the barrels! They are few and far between though.
Rexcernui
I have a baikal sxs for game and an o/u for clays. I like them. They are not pretty but the work. I use foam defenders for clays as well they work but you find yourself saying WHAT? alot because you can't hear a thing.

demonwolf444
Good to hear your getting into it. Get something safe and reliable for a first gun and as others have said, you can't go far wrong with a biakal. + one for wabbit bosher he always has some interesting pieces in at your budget and wont sell you something that's rubbish. Cawdor118
Can you hear that Jamie? Your answer will be "WHAT?!?" In a few years if you carry on abusing your ears pal. Please please please start wearing some form of Ear protection and pronto! Foam plugs are about 10p a pop on ebay. As far as the £300 budget goes you could get yourself a good Baikal, however I would be quick and bang my money into this. - http://www.guntrader.co.uk/Guns-For-Sale/Miroku_Shotgun_Unknown-believed-MK10_For-Sale_131104195330321 Cracking guns even for good experienced guys. thepasty
I shoot a baikal O/U on occasion, cracking little gun but is a bit short.
moorvale55
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use ear protection, once your hearing is damaged it WILL NOT COME BACK. My mate shot .22lr target for years without and his hearing is bug---ed. If you see a shotgun that you like try it first, most rfd's will let you take one to try. Make sure it's the one for you. REMEMBER buy in haste and it will cost you twice the price ! Edit, if you are a big lad, (my son is 6'4") he uses 32" barrels. It's all about the triangulation between eyes and the end on the barrels to sight the target. Edited November 12, 2013 by moorvale55
jamie101
cowdor118 thats a real beauty what you have found there, just what i would be looking for and its well in budget! real shame i havent got my licence yet, flippin coppers, i wish they would hurry it up! i just baught some of those disposable ear plugs off ebay now 10 assorted pairs for £3, although i will get some proper ear defenders when ive checked out some prices of them,
BRNDL
I have a miroku 3800 sporter you can have for little over your buget. It has fixed chokes, 28" barrels, single trigger and auto eject. In average condition and a very good gun for the price. I have shot plenty of carts with it, only ever had one issue. A trip to the dealers and it was all sorted free of charge as it was in warranty. Thanks,
HDAV
3800 for £300 now that is a good buy......

Subaru_sti5
You can do RFD transfer but there's a cost at both ends usually Around £25-£35 each end so alot of the time not worth it but depends on situation.
