mr_magicfingers
I know that you generally get what you pay for but I'm seeing a few single shot manually activated clay traps for under £100. I've just received my SGC and soon to pick up my first gun. I have a coach lined up for some tuition but, given that I have 27 acres of land around my house, I thought I'd pick up a budget trap so that my girlfriend and I could go out shooting occasionally with our own clay setup for practice. I'd be grateful for opinions of what's worthwhile and what's junk.
johnphilip
You want something like a bowman i have seen them come up on ebay. If you are any good at welding you can make a sledge to sit on

Cawdor118
We used to use an upturned steel bath with a double arm manual trap in the old days... Worked for us :-)
mr_magicfingers
Mossy you have mail. A sit on one sounds ideal, I can put it in the back our our Kawasaki Mule and drive it to whichever part of the site we want to play in
Kermit the frog
Bowman or Farey make good manual traps, Bowman pedal trap, is easy to use and it doesn't need a base or a Farey Sportmatic, but buy it with a base, either should cost well under a £100, they come up regularly on ebay kermit

Westley
Have to agree with the buy Promatic. Ran a ground for some 17 years, have used just about every trap made, at some time or other, from Eley plus traps through to automatics. Better to spend a bit more and get a single stacker with a 50/75 magazine. If you do buy a manual trap. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, be VERY careful. In the wrong hands they can be as lethal, if not more so, than the gun you are going to use. I have been unfortunate enough to have witnessed some very severe injuries caused by simple but basic errors, made when using a manual trap. BE WARNED. mr_magicfingers
Thanks for the suggestions folks. As to buying a promatic, well the cost of that is just way out of reach. The price of the cheapest promatic is my entire budget for first shotgun, basic manual trap, a few hours coaching and some shells. I can't justify one of those just yet but if my numbers come up, I know what to get.

welshwarrior
Keep an eye on eBay you can get a single stack auto trap for £150 from time to time great fun. I got 3 Promatics single stacks for under £450.
filzee
I have one of the hand wanggers which is very good as you can vary the angle you throw it. Also if you put the clay upside down and give it a good throw they come out like woodcock.

FatherandSon
I bought a GDK trap for £30 brand new, the website states it could launch singles Or doubles (which it can) 80-100 yards. But I think this is a typo and is meant to say inches!! I could launch the trap further than 'it' can launch clays!! I'm now on the hunt for an automatic that can through doubles! My only problem is that to get to my shoot I need to cross a stile!
HDAV
Dont forget you need 275m from point of firing for the shot fall out, that a fair chunk of 27 acres..... although there are clay shoots on less land
