Never under estimate someone elses job...

Now I like to think that I am a bit handy; diy, welding, spraying, even a bit of gun-smithing.

I bought my daughter a tv for her bedroom (she needs an oasis of calm sharing the house with myself and her brother) for Xmas.

"Dad, I can't get a picture"

"No, that's right you need an aerial"

So I borrowed the ladders from the old chap next door and decided to do this myself and thought that at the same time I would run an aerial into the other bedrooms as well.

Except...

I am not keen on heights!

Give me a cliff face to climb or a nice ridge walk in the Lakes and I'm quite happy.

But a ladder against the side of the house, forget it!

So I battled on all day and it was worth it.

The smile on my daughter's face when she switched on the tv and had a picture!

Never again though.

Aerial fitters you have my respect.

I have a fear of heights no matter how determined to be brave I am.

I can sometimes force myself to the top of a ladder but can't actually do anything once I get there.

I recently discovered that if I do it in the dark I am fine. Can't see how high it is I guess. :D

Heights I'm fine with, it's the greater the chance of falling, the greater my fear. Saying that though, I was TA Para for 4 years. Other than the adrenaline buzz of stepping out of a Herc doing 180mph at 800ft up, I was fine. Bizarre!

I saw that video a while ago and it put 'the fear' into me so much, I've only managed to watch it again once sinse.

Wow, that had me sweating! Is there a point almost at the end where he lets go with both hands momentarily? I wonder how much it sways in a strong wind? Other scary videos include the Chinese building walkways round a mountain, no safety gear at all.

And to get back on track; congrats to the OP Ricko for his achievement!

Mike.
