FatherandSon
My wife has recently taken a shine to shooting clays. She has been using my 11-87 but it's obviously not ideal. Can anyone recommend a shotgun for a 5' 3" woman for clays? Prefer 12g incase she was to compete!
HDAV
FIt is key as is managing recoil and weight. a tidy gun with fitted (to her) stock (may well need comb raiser/adjustable comb) well balanced in 12g will be fins i have a female friend of similar build who shoots a beretta 686 28" MC gun with 21g carts. This is her stock, shortened with adjustable comb and kickeez pad Edited February 6, 2014 by HDAV
ditchman
any gun she likes...can be made to fit.........for a little lady to begin with its the catridges that need to be chosen carefully...............so as not to develope a wince
peteri
Agree fit is the key - my wife is using a Beretta Silver Pigeon 20g, but had the stock fitted - this meant reducing it to just under 13" and also putting quite a bit of cast on it. I'd say if you can wait, look at the Syren from Caesar Guerini these are designed for women apparently. We went through every gun under the sun, the key is to find what your wife is sensitive to - mine is the weight, she's really happy shooting our side by side 12g, but all 12g she tried were either too heavy, or just felt like a big compromise (Beretta Ultra Light for example) Pete

welshwarrior
Fit and balance are key must not be front heavy but will need a short stock she also probably need a higher comb.
Westley
Beretta 391 auto with 26" barrel. I use one a lot for lessons. I have let young ladies from 14 years upwards, use 21 and 24 gram cartridges. Make sure you look at the 'Field' model though, weight around 6 1/4lbs. The sporters and synthetic are quite a bit heavier. The stock can also be adjusted with relevant ease, for height and cast. aister
My wife easily handles my SX3 with 28 gram cartridges, it's a light gun with low recoil.
Mentalmac
Just to throw it out there, we all go on about low recoil for women, but in truth - my other half happily shot 32's when I was out for a wonder on the land the other day and she saw some squirrels... and she found it ok. (my O/U is quite light) (well of course she started with lighter etc..) and for clays you get many more bangs etc... What I'm trying to say is that women can handle a good pounding sometimes... Especially if you've had kids. Some girls are harder that you would imagine. Perhaps a lighter gun with recoil pad would be good compromise? easy to lift and swing and won't tire the muscles so much but a recoil pad to help with the recoil when doing many shots? tx4cabbie
Girl at our Clay club uses my 32" barrel 682 gold e with 28g shells, but wears a pachmeyr (spelling could be wrong) recoil pad, that straps across her shoulder and upper chest. Used to feel the recoil, now no problems. Similar pad can be bought that Velcros to bra strap, if she is sensitive about people seeing her wearing a recoil pad, bought one for my lady and it's been used for all new lady shots in our club for years. +1 for the 21g carts tho, really makes a difference. Mates 10 yr old tried to move from. 410 to 12, 28g carts battered the poor little ******, but with 21g he hit enough to be told not to come back!
