HDAV
How long before the Government insist that trigger locks be fitted to all guns In shops? Talk about jumping the gun. There is no information yet as to the circumstances! It is the staff member on duty and the chaps family I feel for not a pleasant experience for. ozzy518
The circumstances? Whatever the motive, suicide or accident the gun was discharged . I agree that it's tragic for both the old chap , his family and for the staff member seeing it.
Fuddster
last year we had a elderley guy park in the front car park of the local police station and top himself with a shotgun to the head-his suicide note mentioned he didnt want to do it in a public place for fear of upsetting the general public. Tragic what goes on in peoples minds in that state. sympathies for all those concerned. fuddster

happy.plinker
In a gun shop in Scotland a few years back a chap decided to end it all by handling a gun I presume to buy it and when the owner turned his back or went through the back of the shop for something the guy took a cartdridge from his pocket and ended it all. This is what I was told second hand though but the ending was the same . Very sad for all indeed, and if someone wants to do that then it would be near impossible to predict or avoid. Sprackles
Not wishing to speculate on the Surrey incident I'll comment on the Scottish one linked to above. I found it strange that a "keen clay shooter" who obviously had access to cartridges didn't have access to a gun himself. Perhaps he had just had his certificate revoked and guns removed.... hedge hunter 1984
Perhaps he had just had his certificate revoked and guns removed.... good thinking. obviously he must of been depressed so if he had been to the docs and was on record then the police would of taken his guns off him. Really is sad news.

Paul223
Just speculating If he went in with a loaded gun that wouldn't fire / open ( as mentioned above) is it reasonable to think if the gun had discharged in the shop he could have died from fright / shock?
