I have a similar situation. Numbers have built up nicely over last 2 weeks on a neighbouring farmer's field next to one of my permissions. Went to see him today and he was about to put a banger on there.....said I could shoot it first if I get on this weekend. This is the first decent number I have seen on rape in our area and a new permission....so will be out before dawn. Hoping they will come in the morning as a steady stream rather than as one big flock.

Having a go tomorrow too. Not sure about optimism exactly, they are thin on the ground round here. Or spread out at least. Watched a field at lunch time, and phoned the farmer who concurs they are building up, but not in any one place. Will just pick a flight line and hope the magnet does its thing.

With the nice weather and a good few around one of my permissions, it seems bad luck that my Beretta has had to go to the gunsmiths :(

Good luck to everyone else though! Let's us know how it went.

Went for a very good look about.

It's very hit a miss, some days pigeons seem to be swarming, others you don't see a soul.

For about an hours worth of scouting I saw a handful of pigeons, so I decided to head home, which is a shame as earlier in the week it looked promising.

Arrived at midday to find 1000+ in small wood next to field. Forced to set up on the edge of the wood with wind in my face as no suitable slot elsewhere.

Started with 12 dead birds with a flapper and 2 bouncers. Enjoyed 2 hours of frantic but difficult action as I struggled to shoot them going away from the hide.

Made the fatal mistake of ringing my brother in law and as soon as he arrived they dried up!

Picked up 15 but lost a good few hard hits that just flipped away out of sight on the wind.

Great fun though - prelude to the beans going in this week :yahoo:

Well done on a nice little bag.

Just out of interest, why did you take the photo with the previously shot birds?

I was set up by dawn and soon had plenty of pigeons coming into the field but they did not decoy for over an hour. They were looking to sit in the oak trees and unfortunately this field had 26 trees in and around it. Had only a couple decoy, shot 10 and packed up by mid-day......but farmer was happy for my efforts.
