Called Out in the Fog Yesterday

Recommended Posts

Had the phone call late Tuesday night that the farmer had been told he had lots of pigeons on his rape, left the house at approx 06.30 and drove to the field in thick fog. The wind was cold and from the north so I drove around to the warmest hedge and set up with the wind coming left to right and the sun , if it breaks through from my back. I put out ten birds on cradles above the rape and two on the magnet which I placed up wind to the hide. The fog kept trying to lift and then come down thicker. it was wierd that you would hear the wing beats and then see a shape fly over from the back . The big problem was the birds would stick together in large groups of approx twenty to thirty so you would shoot two and spook twenty eight. As the fog cleared the birds came more regularly and I packed up at 14.00 as I had to go out on the evening . I picked up fifty nine pigeons at the end but enjoyed the day as it was dry for a change.
