Cranfield
From the Beretta website; "The new hunting over-and-under, the Beretta Silver Pigeon S, unites beauty with superior performance. The Silver Pigeon S is distinguished by a new, elegant, ornamental engraving on the receiver. It is emphasised by its beautiful, finely checkered stock and Schnabel fore-end. The Silver Pigeon S over-and-unders come in 12, 20 and 28 gauge (the Combo version with interchangeable barrels comes in 20/28 gauge). Another variation is X-tra Wood where the stock and fore-end is strongly varnished to beautify the grain of the wood. " Sounds like the posh Silver Pigeon, nice gun. :yp:
Catamong
Darren, What a strange question - did you get it from a bloke in a pub?
darren m
Thanks cranfield for the info. Double H -- no from a gun shop (neveilles , Alfreton , Derby's) i never really took much notice of the model of the gun , just the look and fit it was just that i,d seen a"silver pigeon steel" advertised in the mags and noticed it said "silver pigeon S" on the bottom of the reciever of mine. i was wondering what the "S" actually stood for. and if it was the same model. Any one know??? Thanks Darren . Also is there any one on here who could date the manufacture of it if i provided the serial number .
vimm
The S also stands for Supermarket.. You see NETTO sold chepo versions from there outlets in the Derbyshire Area`s. So that gun you bought will have the same quality as there beans :yp:

Cranfield
Could it have something to do with the "Schnabel fore-end" ? :yp: Or does it mean "Superior" ? I,m suprised that Beretta UK don,t tell you.

Cranfield
Yup, GMK are the UK distributor for Beretta guns. They are probably not back to work until next week. Email them again, you should get a reply.

Cranfield
Len, there is a good chance he found the answer over the last 4 years. ("S" also stands for "Steel")
CharlieT
Here is the link to the Beretta web site http://www.beretta.com/index.aspx?m=74&idc=1&ids=17 It does not state what the S stands for probably Scroll or superior or even standard which would be my guess !. It is as you will see a field model not a sporting one. It is available in both 3 & 31/2 chambers. I have one in 20 bore, super little gun. All are proofed for steel shot. jonesbach
been wandering what age etc my beretta 687 S was.. i bought it as my first 12g s/h from gun shop. had just been brought it from an elderly gent that had retired from shooting due to athritis. dont think he'd used it much as it was still pretty tight! was intending to email GMK at some point to find out full spec etc. naively fired a few AAA carts through it for foxes (bought same time as gun from same shop) but never been 100% sure that its been proofed for steel so still have 23 of them left! then i read on this thread that it could also be chambered for 3"..another thing i didnt know!
