Joshua1993
Last year I done a tandem skydive in Portugal and ever since I wanted to get into the sport, however I have a few concerns I'm hoping someone people may be able to answer - if anyone on here is into the sport! I know this is probably the wrong place to ask this but its worth a try How regularly would I need to go in order to keep it up, as I read that if even if you get your A license you still need to jump every so often? After say 50 jumps, is it still exciting? Also, I see the equipment is quite expensive. If I stuck with it and bought equipment, does it hold its value or would it be advisable to just rent the equipment for each jump? Lastly, silly question.... are Skydivers generally nice people and easy to get along with as I really would like to start going on a regular basis and meet new people! Cheers. happy.plinker
As Billy Connely once said 'why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good working plane? '. but saying that each to they're own.

'. but saying that each to they're own. haha trust me, it is so much fun and actually very safe indeed! But as you said, each to they're own I guess I have a long list of ambitions that I wish to fulfill - this is one of many. I have already completed some, but have many more to go! Medic1281
They are generally a very sociable bunch in my experience. It's also quite a close knit community as there aren't that many dive centres around the country. One of my colleagues owns the skydive centre at Tilstock airfield, which is about a mile from my parents farm. I've never jumped there, but have done a tandem dive over the Gold Coast in Australia. I can't imagine that that feeling would ever get boring!
Del T
An old friend used to do it every weekend. He even packed the parachutes so he'd get a free lift up in the plane he was that tight. Also be prepared for words like " rad, xtreme, bonzer, dude" etc etc to be spoken in every sentence.
nobbyathome
one of my old friends did skydiving and instructed it for a living he said you still get a buzz out of it even after 1000 jumps although he said watching other peoples first time was a better feeling he ended up on the side of the m11 after his shute did not open up properly you have to remember as with all high risk sports accidents happen i dont want to put you off i raced motorbikes for 9 years so i do get your buzz with danger think hard about who you could leave behind and always double check everything

Blackpowder
As Billy Connely once said 'why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good working plane? '. but saying that each to they're own. I am with Mr Connely on this one. Mind you if I looked out the window and saw all the engines on fire I would try to be first in the queque for a parachute. Joshua1993
Thank you for all your replies! I didn't expect this many comments. nobbyathome: Am I tempting fate a little as I wish to do my bike test next month also I understand the danger, I just feel that I would like to make the most of out my life and although it does come with its risks, skydiving is generally very safe. Glad to hear that I shouldn't get bored of it either. jimboblincs: Interesting looking at some of those pics, thanks. Sadly it is a little to far for me to go, well regularly anyway. Del T
he ended up on the side of the m11 after his shute did not open up properly Yes its a risky business, the friend I mentioned had an "incident" on his first solo jump! The chute got all twisted and he couldnt sort it so had to cut away and use the reserve chute!! Now he's into being a bird man with his own wing suit, but still too tight to buy his mate a beer.lol

Paul223
Did a static line jump many years back, 4 of us, the wife, bro in law, another young lady and myself The bro in law now lives in Canada and jumps most weekends, has worked his way up and qualified as an instructor The wife jumped again a year ago at 13500 feet, a full minute of free fall (screaming for much of it)! I'd like to jump again but the opportunities are very infrequent, I have however done a bungee jump which personally I find far more stressful! The bro in law has all his own gear, because he would not want to trust anything else, the other guys in the club are, he tells me, very easy going and may be the sort to smoke pot in the evenings around the camp fire. Unfortunately he has no idea of what's required to keep it up in this country Edited cos the I phone thinks it knows better Edited April 3, 2014 by Paul223

GingerCat
2 years ago swmbo decided to do a sky dive, clearly I also had to do one or I'd lose serious man points. We jumped for 15k, a few things quickly became apparent, 15k is seriously high. Far higher than one might think Your ears don't appreciate a sky dive when you have a cold, I shouldn't have jumped really. If you think of the drop ship in aliens your not far wrong, for the feeling in your stomach, if I shut my eyes I can remember exactly what a it's like at 15k with your feet flapping in the wind from the door of a light aircraft. Finally, I can see why its more addictive than crack, north lincs has a good place, a Google throws the answers up.
Muddy Funker
I did a tandem 12,000ft jump in Taupo NZ years ago and it is without a doubt the most ridiculously amazing feeling I've ever had.I doubt there are many things that can compare. Go for it.

Salop Matt
Sorry guys am in the group that dont understand the desire to jump out of a purfectly good and serviceable aircraft ! I enjoy flying but parachutes are for emergencys and times of war only for me ! The Mrs wants to do a sky dive but am 100% against the idea. Maybe folk on here that do any jumps could donate there shooting kit etc to other members if they get splattered across the LZ !
