Markt3815
I would like to upgrade my gun cabinet for a larger biometric one have I got to notify my fao and does he have to inspect again?
steve_b_wales
No, you don't have to notify him, I never have and there were no issues. You could contact him though if you wish, it would'nt do any harm. I doubt very much if he will come and inspect the new cabinet.

hawkeye
Well our feo always comes to check when you have changed place of safe or put in a different one..
jimmyb79
I contacted my FEO some years ago when I bought a bigger cabinet just to check. He was round in 20 mins to check it!

Mil-Instructor
You are not required to, though if you are thinking of moving your storage getting your FEO's input might be sensible. You alone are responsible for assessing risk, and deciding what are the most appropriate storage measures needed to secure your firearms. The Home Office Guidance is useful [ https://www.gov.uk/search?q=firearm+security&tab=government-results ]; you will only be held to account if something goes wrong. Gordon R
Whether the FEO comes to inspect or not, it doesn't do any harm to drop him a line, keeping him informed.
Scuba
Just had my inspection this morning, & I told the feo that as I've just moved into the property & am planing to do a lot of work in it That the cabinet would at some point have to come down! But got a mate round the corner & could put my gun in his cabinet Her reply was, you must notify us & you can only store it there for 72 hours & we would need to come and inspect the cabinet once it's reinstalled wether in the same place or a new location! Mentalmac
I believe that If you have a nearby family member you can put your cabinet in their address for a while as long as you are the only key holder. Hope all goes well.
steve_b_wales
I think it boils down to, if you are moving to a different property, then the FEO may want to come and inspect the new surroundings etc, but if you are just changing the cabinet for a bigger one, then the FEO probably won't want to come and inspect it. It also depends on your FEO and what police force he/she works for.
mickyh
I just emailed W Yorkshire today to let them know I'd replaced my cabinet with a bigger one, they replied within the hour to say I had an inspection last year so I don't need another, but would I let them know how many guns it holds. That was it.
wyatt
You've got to wonder at the lack of continuity haven't you. Due to lack of resources WMP didn't come to check my cabinet when I moved house, reminding me that it was my responsibility and license to ensure their security. Also, how are you to work out how many weapons will fit in a cabinet? I purchased a 3 gun cab which you could if you wanted get about 10 .410s in.. ferguson_tom
When i moved house recently they didnt even both coming to inspect it. Herts and Beds like to do things by email so if i were to get a bigger cabinet or decide to move my existing one I would just drop them an email as will do no harm. I bought a Brattonsound ST9+ It actually has slots for 11 guns??? I told them 9 anyway, but you could cram a stack in if you weren't bothered about scratches. It's full when you can't ram any more in it, whatever number it may have attached to it is irrelevant!
