Beretta28g
Looking for 2 new workbench's. I need them to be strong as one will carry a lathe and one a mill. Whats out there and what price? Also what do people think of this on a auction site, 200951272957 will it be any good and strong enough to do the job?
happy.plinker
I would make them yourself, far better than any bought one. Mine are 3x3 legs and 8x2's together for the top, loads on youtube.I reckon for you 3/4 ply doubled up would be a good top.
welshwarrior
As above I've used 3x3 as front legs the rear is attached to the wall 1 1/2" of board on to top on a 2x1 frame

mark@mbb
We use 3 x 2 legs with a good one side plywood top all around the walls of the workshop and as a central bench we have an 8 x 4 fire door blank works a treat

robbiep
I agree, make your own. Far better quality than anything you could buy. Mine is 3*3 for legs, 6*2 for the top.
malkiserow
I found some monster cast iron leg sections (with end rails cast in) at the local tip and put 3 inch thick timber on top with a well near the back .... 2 vices onboard.
Catweazle
I don't know what type of lathe you have, but if it's anything more than the smallest then it will benefit from having the table legs bolted properly into the floor. The lathe itself should have adjustable feet, but if the table rocks, twists and vibrates you won't get the quality your lathe is capable of. Milling machines are not quite so fussy, but look at any serious model and you'll see holes in the base to bolt it down, even though there is no chance of one toppling over. team tractor
We sell 30 mm work tops £39 that are perfect for a lathe bench but all ours at work are 4x4 legs ,5x2 across the top with 18 mm mdf tops as we can sand them down after spilling glue on them . I love my 8x4 benches We also stock 2 mm mdf so if I need a perfect surface I grab the spray contact glue and bang another sheet on £5 and 5 mins it's like new
