I have been striving to get 100 pigeons in a single session and failing...miserably. Had a cracking day yesterday on the crows and finished with 83...which helps with the pain of not getting any pigeons..

Got an invite from PW member Pickerup to join him and his shooting buddy to have a go at the pigeons on some rape stubble today, we looked at the field yesterday afternoon and around 250+ took off..what a sight..even though i was up at 3.50 couldn't sleep...sad ***.

set up for 11am with two hides and joined pickerup, we had a steady flow of pigeons and Pickerup was shooting really well..40 birds from 41 shots while i was with him (only reason he used another shot was to ensure the pigeon dropped before going over into the wheat). I think he went to 48 before he missed a bird..I have never seen that before ( or probably will do again..)

His mate was getting more birds so he suggested I join him so i could get some shooting..top bloke or what.

His mate let me do all the shooting when i relocated..another top bloke.. :good:

After a steady flow of birds I packed up at 6.30...finished on 60 which is my Pb on the pigeons.

Total bag was 183 picked... there was quite a few that were hit hard that didn't drop as well.

cracking days sport and banter with two real gents..

Off down to North devon tomorrow for a week with my family ..... :good:

cream teas and cider..get in there

Your getting nearer and nearer Steve , if it is not this year it will be next , all the while your out there your learning more and more and when the day comes when there are good numbers about you will be able to take advantage of the situation .....................P S...48 out of 49 is some shooting ..BRILLIANT.

Steve - thanks for the write up...to be part of a team effort to get 183 is a good session in itself.

I would not get hung up on the ton. I hoped it would happen for me this harvest (my second) but the opportunity has not arisen yet and I don't think it will but I have had some good days with low numbers and it is the quality of the shooting rather than the number that makes it worthwhile.

Today was a huge learning curve. Delivered by two seasoned pigeon shooters who like yourself Jdog were happy to give advice and tips. they do work in slightly different ways which was hugely beneficial to watch. both can shoot and they have still have got the pigeon bug even after 25 years of shooting.

Good bag Steve, and very nice of pickerup and Shropshiresam for taking you under their wing . Nice one fellas !

Dont worry it took me 2 years of trying to get my red letter day but it came on an unexpected day . Hardly any birds about on the field but I set up anyway. By 2pm id shot my 100 birds and they were still coming. 154 total birds picked . Ill never forget it wot a day !!

Steve

After walking the dogs round the fields and through the wood this morning picked up another 20

that brings the total bag for yesterday to 203.

pickerup.

Its not all about the size of the bag its about the mate your shooting with had some great banter and a lot of laughs.
