steveyg
I have been striving to get 100 pigeons in a single session and failing...miserably. Had a cracking day yesterday on the crows and finished with 83...which helps with the pain of not getting any pigeons.. Got an invite from PW member Pickerup to join him and his shooting buddy to have a go at the pigeons on some rape stubble today, we looked at the field yesterday afternoon and around 250+ took off..what a sight..even though i was up at 3.50 couldn't sleep...sad ***. set up for 11am with two hides and joined pickerup, we had a steady flow of pigeons and Pickerup was shooting really well..40 birds from 41 shots while i was with him (only reason he used another shot was to ensure the pigeon dropped before going over into the wheat). I think he went to 48 before he missed a bird..I have never seen that before ( or probably will do again..) His mate was getting more birds so he suggested I join him so i could get some shooting..top bloke or what. His mate let me do all the shooting when i relocated..another top bloke.. After a steady flow of birds I packed up at 6.30...finished on 60 which is my Pb on the pigeons. Total bag was 183 picked... there was quite a few that were hit hard that didn't drop as well. cracking days sport and banter with two real gents.. Off down to North devon tomorrow for a week with my family ..... cream teas and cider..get in there

ShropshireSam
Steve - thanks for the write up...to be part of a team effort to get 183 is a good session in itself. I would not get hung up on the ton. I hoped it would happen for me this harvest (my second) but the opportunity has not arisen yet and I don't think it will but I have had some good days with low numbers and it is the quality of the shooting rather than the number that makes it worthwhile. JDog
We will all be asking you for advice on decoying soon. That was quite some bag to which you were a significant contributor.
steveyg
Today was a huge learning curve. Delivered by two seasoned pigeon shooters who like yourself Jdog were happy to give advice and tips. they do work in slightly different ways which was hugely beneficial to watch. both can shoot and they have still have got the pigeon bug even after 25 years of shooting.
