Essex birds at last - but these ones did not perform!

It was inevitable that The Essex Hunter (TEH) and I would meet at some stage. After all we have a lot in common - we are both frequent posters on PW, we are both young and handsome, intelligent, erudite and we both have young spaniels. So I took a trip to Essex this week.

On the afternoon I arrived there was close to £1million worth of farm machinery in the field TEH was interested in, being two combines, tractors with balers and carts taking bales away. There were also four flight lines into or across the field so things looked good for today. We arrived in good time today with no flight at that stage so we drove round to other land which TEH shoots and it all looked very pigeonny. Back to the original field and TEH set up on his favourite tree with a hide to share and we chatted, and chatted and chatted but the flight never really materialised. There were some pigeons but they never left the sanctuary of the trees two fields away and we eventually admitted defeat and packed up just before some horrendous storms with thunder and lightening and heavy rain struck the area.

No one should doubt that TEH is a very keen vermin and deer controller.

The picture shows TEH, Chip (who is not amused) and Jasper.

With the stop and start harvest we have had round our area this year they are working the fields as soon as the combine have finished, in fact one wheat field they had started on the tractor started to cultivate up to where the combine had stopped that's why I said on one of my posts you need more than one plan when you go now as you never know what there doing on the field until you get there, as for the heavy rain there isn't much we can do about that.

Unlucky lads, but at least you got out in the fresh air for a good chat.

There are some good bags being shot in Essex at the moment. Mr Theobald has been shooting a good few (still waiting for my invite :whistling: ), and friend of my mate down there had a bag of 250+ on rape stubble, recently.

You really shouldn't drink so much so early, it really is affecting your judgement!
