If you get a good one it'll be really good. If you get a bad one it'll be a moneypit. Buy the very best (lowest mileage FLRSH) you can afford and get a warranty (insurance backed). Remember these were £30k + cars, the assumption is that you can afford the maintenance. bluesj Posted September 28, 2014 Report Share Posted September 28, 2014 I've had land rovers ever since i got my license and my dad has a disco 3 and had no problems with it at all but I would say look else where as spanj said if you get a good one the are great if not then you may as well just put your bank details up on here! One of our customers has got one we change the ns head light bulb about every 2 weeks or so can't find out why! It brings up all sorts of fault codes even faults on stuff that isn't fitted to it, it eats tyres, had the wheel alignment checked at 3 different places all came back saying it was ok. the radio stops working for days at a time as does the air con and windows but other than that and the engine falling to bits after about 50K miles its fine Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was my wife's daily driver but when my kids started school we found it to expensive to run we were getting around 10mpg around town so it had to go. And my mate had the same one as mine and he found it the same and he had it chipped to try and help but no noticeable difference. We brought a new audi a3 s line for my wife and me a older l200 and we are still miles better off. Has 175,000+ on the clock They do have common problems (air compressor, EGR valves (blankable), clutches (upgraded version now), etc. They are brilliant cars. There are better vehicles for going off road, and better cars for driving fast on the motorway - but nothing (other than perhaps the D4!) can do everything so well, whilst feeling like you are floating on air and sitting in an armchair. Markt3815 Posted September 28, 2014 Author Report Share Posted September 28, 2014 I could spend 25k on a d4 but would be scared to scratch it , I'm looking at a 2005 with 90k full history lots of receipts for timing belts and service work , very clean car with a £1500 reciept for new wheels and BFG all terrains like new plus all old wheels and tyres, at 8k I don't think is that bad and don't mind my dogs jumping in and out and chucking my gear in .. I would only own an other one if it was new and under warranty . My son inlaw has a brand new Range Rover less than a year old and it is in the dealers every other week for warranty work . A new central counsel and new turbo among the repairs . A seventy thousand pound car less than 10,000 miles and is costing some body lots of money in warranty work . Having said that , he loves the car and have said that he will buy another one when this one is 3 years old . He said that he would never consider buying one out of the warranty period . Harnser I've just sold my 2008 aventura navara cost me an absolute fortune inc a new cylinder head, I think most vehicles have there flaws and disco top the list by the looks of it .. Now that was a good tool up to 180,000 but a pain over that. regular breakdowns. My local landrover specialist advises against D3 and D4, total money pits. Friend of a freind bought one for 25k, six months later and just out of warranty the engine crankshaft snapped, the LR repair bill. 19K, yes 19K !!. They are now recommending Shogun and Toyota especially the former. I do have another friend who tows big trailers containing high value cars all round Europe at pretty high speed. stuart21 Posted October 3, 2014 Report Share Posted October 3, 2014 I've just sold mine because of a house move, but it was the best car I have ever had and once I get my finances sorted in the new year, I will be buying a disco 4 or a range rover. I had mine for 4 years and it was 6 years old when I bought. Apart from standard wear and tear stuff, nothing much went wrong. A friend of mine has one and he has spent a fortune on his, mainly the air suspension. Another thing to look out for is a leaky sunroof. I have been told that mechanically they are excellent, but it's the electrics that let it down. Maybe look for a car that has had a lot spent on it already. beeredup Posted October 20, 2014 Report Share Posted October 20, 2014 i drive a D3 Se 2007 auto and i love it had a few of the usual issues new compressor now upgraded to the D4 one and i have had a burst boost hose. they are a high end car with a lot of gizmos on that can possibly go wrong they have a penchant for drinking copious amounts too but if you want some thing you can drive the length of the country and arrive feeling refreshed and still drive it off road its a great car yeah they go wrong from time to time but so do so many others Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
