RFD to RFD

I have been looking for an Anschutz 1517 deluxe HMR for a while and found a new one at a good price which I bought with a scope and moderator. As I was needing to transfer it to an RFD in my area I phoned the guy at Anglia Tackle & Gun in Norwich and asked if he would accept the rifle and kit for me. He agreed and said that it would be no problem but it would cost me 10% of what the total cost of the kit was. I said so you are expecting me to pay £113 so that I can have an RFD to RFD done. "YES" was his answer. No way was mine and I hung up. I have not used the shop much but in the future I will never use it again and will discourage as many people as I can from using them  . A phone call to Chris Tanner at Norfolk Sporting Gun, Wymondham and it is being done for £20. :good:

If the RFD is doing the transaction the correct way he should not charge much as said he is only accepting a parcel for you. or is he doing the incorrect more paperwork way which a lot seem to do which is arguably better for traceability but not how it's supposed to be done and booking it into his book.

Has anyone in business ever priced a service out of realistic price because they dont want to do it/didnt like the customer/feared it would bring continued bother or just generally didnt feel it was a realistic use of their time? Im not pointing the finger or picking on anyone in particular but i have turned down work as one of these were the likely outcome. I once received a gun for a PW member who is a friend and when i itemised the time and expense of doing it realistically it added up and he was happy to reimburse me for the service which with him being a friend, all went swimmingly but the problems able to arise from these transactions arent inconsiderable. I agree the price quoted was excessive BUT dealers often dont like this service being too popular as at the end of the day, removes their involvement in a sales deal and we are all here to earn a living.

well i think £20-£25 is good money(for rfd) for the time/effort

But the goodwill aspect of doing this for a potential shooter surely outweighs the actual cost? I've driven past this shop a couple of times and when the opportunity arises may pay a visit but now there are seeds of doubt. A former Norwich Gunshop treated me in a fairly shabby way many years ago - I never visited it again. I found one double the distance who have never disappointed.

£113 is excessive. I know they sell RWS ammo and must therefore have a RUAG ( Anschutz distributor) account.

Maybe they thought you might change your mind and buy the gun direct from them? Just a thought.

Their website is "...down for a complete new design" which can be other parlance for we are about to go belly up. :)

i have got a RFD close to me whose the same, i buy all my carts from him and had a couple of guns transfered to him @£25 a time, but when i asked if he would accept a 12g and a little cooey 410 as a one parcel he wanted £60, which is a bit unreasonable i think for a regular customer.
