KW I know about failure, I voted lib dem..... In all honesty I think ukip need to drop farage as he's too southern, too ex-tory and too last year. I don't, but if I wanted to bring the party on I'd get busy recruiting dissafected labour MPs and build my base around 'workers' as the EU question will kill ukip in its current form. Why - the last thing this country needs is MORE socialist parties or should i say parasites - and ad for lib dems they are only one step removed from greens. grrclark
Some of the comments from Douglas Carswell about NF's resignation and potential re-standing in September were telling, complimentary at face value, but also not overly enthusiastic about the return. In some respects he is a bit like Salmond in that he is divisive, probably necessary as he had to break the back of the PC resistance to a lot of what he was saying, but he will always carry that baggage. If there was a less abrasive character waiting in the wings to pick up where he left off they would probably garner a lot more support, again a lot like what has happened with Salmond & Sturgeon. Regrettably for UKIP to become much more mainstream they have to smooth off some of the rough edges. A huge amount of the vote for UKIP was for principle and not for people, that is why only Carswell won. Whatever the flaws of our system it is still ultimately people voting for people and they didn't have the charisma of Farage in each constituency. Douglas Carswell is an exception, he was a hugely popular constituency MP and that carried him over the line. Mark Reckless was much less so and he paid the price. UKIP must grow beyond Farage if they want to have sustained growth.
welsh1
How funny that people who support other parties are only commenting on UKIP,you would have thought with labour losing,Libdems decimated, and the torys victorious that there would be plenty for them to talk about, but they all want to talk about is UKIP Other parties would pay good money for this type of coverage. I wasn't suggesting they became the UK independence socialist party, but a broad spectrum of people would help them shed the idea that they are all e Tory's. To survive past 2017 they need a different USP in my opinion, but time will tell.

Well we won so crowing about that would be poor form. The liberal party is extinct so that verdict is in. Labour are imploding and that's fun to sit back and watch. No doubt the cons will **ck up at some point...they can't help themselves. ATB Edited May 11, 2015 by achosenman

I guess it is a UKIP thread Rob and it is testament to their achievements that they are worth a good discussions. Of course there is also a healthy dose of bear baiting goes on in these threads from both sides and given the number of responses then there are a lot of bears on PW On top of that from the polls there are only really tories or kippers on PW with a smattering of others

But ukip are interesting. Whether you like 'em or hate 'em they, and the SNP, have shaken things up recently.
Scully
BBC opinion is that Farage has 'turned UKIP into a force to be reckoned with', but also say that his decision may lose him some votes. Fair enough, it's a so called democracy. He wont be losing mine.
grrclark
To make ukip more palatable in labour strongholds. I wasn't suggesting they became the UK independence socialist party, but a broad spectrum of people would help them shed the idea that they are all e Tory's. To survive past 2017 they need a different USP in my opinion, but time will tell. It was interesting in some of the Scottish TV debates that David Coburn, UKIP MEP, described the party as being very much libertarian. Although the nationalism element of UKIP suggests right wing much of their policies are/were not right wing at all. It wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest that based on the manifestos alone that the Tories are still the most right wing. Likewise SNP espouse a very socialist rhetoric, but they have done very little socialist in 8 years of Scottish government.
FalconFN
That was my point, hopefully in a tongue in cheek way, that he didn't actually resign. He offered but then withdrew his resignation. I've said several times that I think ukip shaking things up has been a good thing but considering the number of posts ukip generate on here I thought it odd that there wasn't a thread dedicated to this odd turn of events. Lloyd90
It's being discussed in the "vote ukip" and "ukip humiliated" threads I believe. To be fair coming from almost nothing, along with the practical smear campaign they suffered (eespecially againSt people who'd been in the other parties for years, but never mentioned) I thought taking 13% of the vote shows just how much the people want change and action. Psyxologos
We need to get a sit-in going, sing some songs, hold hands or even start a dirty protest. Nigel Farage is being held against his will by ukip members, he needs our help. He attempted to leave but he has been cruelly refused freedom by selfish political bandits who's plan appears to make Sir Nigel of Thanet look like a two-faced. Self-serving liar. We cannot let this happen, he needs to be let free to run with the other newly released leaders. Help me help Nigel, let him be free. Lol. You don't say! Psyxologos
Posted 08 May 2015 - 11:36 PM As for theirt 'leader', he of course would not give up his position of authority. He will do anything he can to remain in the spotligh. He has no reservations or the need to honor his word. The fact that his 'party' is a one man show and he has the ethical standing of a gutter rat helps with that. Well, who would have thought it e? Danger-Mouse
A bit off the current topic but . . . Was doing a bit of youtube browsing and found this. It`s a few years old but interesting nonetheless. Given that it`s the viewpoint of the nicest people in the world (The Canadians eh) it rather stamps on the argument that UKIP is a racist party.
