Washing Machine problem

My washing machine is giving a problem during the last 20 minutes of a cycle during the rinse and spin, making a slight banging noise. First i thought it was a spring broke and the drum had too much movement, but on closer observations it seems to be like the description below.

When the solenoid opens to let water in, at the start of a fill or rinse, by putting my fingers on the cold copper in-feed pipe off the mains i can feel and hear full normal water flow. So there is no blockage in the filter on the inlet at the back of the machine.

The problem seems to occur at the same part of the cycle, when the rinse water is being emptied and the drum is turning but not on full spin. When it happens if i put my fingers on the cold copper in-feed pipe i can feel and hear like water pulses and the banging noise.

Could it be that the solenoid is coming on and off in short bursts when it shouldn't be ? If so, what is causing it to do this ?

The machine is a Hotpoint Aquarius WMF 740.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

sounds like it's spinning up before its emptied properly, either a drainage problem so check your filter and pipes or if you deem yourself competent remove the lid and there will be a teacup sized flat pressure switch inside with a couple of wires and a small bore rubber hose attached that dissapears to the bottom of the machine , this tells the machine when it's empty of water to allow it to move through the cycle, just unclip the hose from the switch and blow through the pipe then reattach it. To check the bearings are ok open the door with the machine empty and spin the drum by hand, it should be smooth and not in any way loose or rattley

TS could be right , if you have little kids check were their socks go, had a Hotpoint and they used to get lodged the water out pump. What a carry on to get the little things out, tried for years until the kids were big enough to need adult size socks to get Mrs S to put the socking things in a bag.

Did manage to get round the missing sock conundrum, never solved it just got round it by buying ten packs of socks all the same colour......worked for me.
