motty
I usually have a fair idea of where a likely shoot may come from. With the stop/start harvest, i wasn't too sure what to expect. There's plenty of stubbles to choose from and standing beans are proving to be attractive recently. I started my search, but i could only find small pockets of pigeons. I was not going to bother setting up unless i thought there may be a chance of at least 30. I checked countless wheat stubbles. I checked some old rape stubbles. Nothing. I carried on and on and i eventually found a small flightline going onto a barley stubble. This was handy, as it was going to be the last farm i checked. I really couldn't be bothered to drive another 30 miles in the other direction to check more farms. Time was pressing on. It was nearly 2pm. I hastily threw out a load of shell decoys and a magnet. I had 4 pigeons down within the first minute. Things went quiet and i considered going home with the score at 13. I stayed. It picked up. The birds decoyed superbly. They homed in on the rotary and many birds were routine. I did not alter the pattern or have a pick up at any point-the pigeons laid where they were killed. I did start to wonder how many i might get. At times i was shooting as fast as i could reload. I called it a day at 6pm. I had 104 pigeons. By the time i got home i had travelled over 80 miles. I suppose it was worth it in the end.

aga man
A well deserved bag, just goes to show you can't always throw the towel in too early at this time of year!
Mightymariner
Sometimes it's that 'to hell with it I'll give it a go' fields that pay dividends. Well done, a good bag out of nothing.

pigeon controller
Well done, that's the way to do it. I think when you say it went manic at times people think yea yea but I'm glad that you have expirenced it first hand. We have had days when two of us in the hide are not able to load quich enough. This only lasts thirty minutes some times but produces a lot of birds. Again well done for sticking at it as it paid off in the end. ShropshireSam
Well done on eventually choosing the right field....makes up for the times when you decide to stick it out and it never does pick up...like my last outing ..... finished with 6 (but my best kill ratio as only 7 shots).
