Carpenter, Chippy, Door hanging

I need 7 Internal doors fitted, just the common light weight 6 panel moulded doors, I have all the doors and fittings.

This is proving hard work. Only found a couple but they are not able to fit for 4-5 weeks, I'm not looking for tomorrow (although that would be great) but a bit sooner would be useful.

I'm in the Reading area, anyone know a decent carpenter who could do the job for me please asap?

THANK YOU.

hello, as bruno said it is not that difficult to do as long as you have the right tools and can template off old doors by that i mean hinge measurements and fitting in door handle, i was looking for a carpenter to make an outside door for my sons garden, phoned 3 and not interested, this door is 4ft x 6ft and would be heavy. so i bought materials T@ G timber/ screws nail glue and made and fitted with help to hang using 12inch T hinges.

We only go college for 3 years for fun don't you know ;)

Fitting a door correctly is an art. You want all the margins the same , make sure it's not hinge bound , rubbing carpet, latch and handles not sticking and neatly fitted.

To fit a door uses a lot of tools and people are often shocked how many I use out of my van.

Let's us know when it falls apart ;)

Come on guys, talk is cheap and, this isn't who is better than who, I want some doors fitted.

However, any professional who comes and fits these for me can take a look at doors I've fitted, and if you can do them to that standard I'll be happy.

But at the moment I don't see anyone offering to fit! :hmm::good:

Confused then why you need someone to come and hang these doors for you :hmm:

Extract from post 6 above......

"Right now I have a lot of other things on the go and a broken ankle so I could do with some help".

There are numerous reasons, but I also have a decorator booked for the end of the month and have a lot of other prep work to get done before then, the doors were a last minute thought, none of which changes the fact there has been a lot of hot air here and not a single offer to do the job.

This thread, as usual, seems to be heading off somewhere but can we get back to the topic please.

I have done doors before, and probably do a better job than most fitters, but it takes me 2 or 3 times as long

Right now I have a lot of other things on the go and a broken ankle so I could do with some help.

Cheers

hello, sorry to hear that and hope you get sorted and a speedy recovery

A few of my mates are joiners and they're not interested in hanging doors in old frames in a house. Even for mates! They reckon it's not worth the hassle and can make the same money doing an easier job or they want £40-50 a door.

IIIIIIIIINNNNNN ONE, not worth lugging your tools about for ( and folk don't want to pay £40/£50 per door)

I'm a chippy and it ain't worth the hassle , doing a kitchen or a roof that's where the money is , I only do doors for family now ( if I have to lol)

i'd appreciate the extra money dekers, but you're miles away, sorry bud.

it shouldn't pose a problem to any decent chippy, the only thing about it is it's a bit monotonous.

the going rate round here is around 30 to 35 a door, easy money.

I don't understand why some of you guys are complaining about it, how much do you expect to earn in a day?

40-45 a door here around here but one off are £50.

New doors in old frames can be a nightmare and I've managed 10 in a day but also managed 3 believe it or not.

Paint and filler in the rebates wrecking my chisels on hidden nails and pins.

I can earn good money doing easy jobs instead of carrying doors up and down stairs so it's not about being greedy but why struggle for your money ;)
