poontang
Spent the afternoon sat in a hide looking for a chance to photograph a pair of local Marsh Harriers. As usual the Met Office had got their forecast wrong and what was supposed to be a cold, bright sunny afternoon turned out to be cold, dull and miserable!! The birds were about, I could hear them, but they were at a fair distance quartering the reed beds looking for some unsuspecting morsel. Eventually the male bird came close enough for a few shots. I've had to crop the pics a fair bit as he was still a fair way off. After leaving the hide I checked out a better spot so should hopefully get some better shots in future...and who knows the weather bods might even get it right for once too. That would be nice!! JDog
Good photos of spectacular birds. Sadly they have a rapacious appetite for small birds like their cousins the Hen Harrier.

JDog
Why did you feel the need to mention that? Marsh Harriers do not live on fresh air and it is a well known fact that they can decimate populations of Bearded tits, Dartford Warblers and Reed warblers. Hen Harriers seem to favour Meadow pipits, Twites and other little brown jobs. It is nature. Why shouldn't it be mentioned?
Paul taylor
Love birds of prey. Sat watching golden eagles hunting fox in Mongolia right now. National Geographic. Cheers for the heads up on it Adam👍

Why shouldn't it be mentioned? It just came across very negative(to me)The birds you mentioned have suffered far more through bad farming practices than raptor predation. I like to read your posts so please,no offence intended.
