OJW
Drive 1 We went up into the hills for two of the drives shooting the famous Llandinam partridges. The views were utterly breath-taking and the birds flew like bats out of hell. The beaters worked tirelessly up on the mountainside above, literally having to skid down the hill on their back-sides in places due to the sheer steepness. The partridges got up and shot off the mountainside in a spectacular fashion. I managed to just about hold my own on these and had some fantastic sport. At one point a Hercules took off from a nearby RAF airbase and we watched it climb and disappear over the mountaintops. It was such a privilege to be here. Drive 2 This was a lovely woodland drive, as peg 8 I was slightly out of it but still had plenty of opportunity. I was selective on my birds knowing that Llandinam would have more in store for us later in the day. I was please with a long crosser and a quick Pheasants that took me by surprise, bursting over the tree in front and presenting an excellent opportunity to test my snap shooting. Drive 3 As Peg 1 I was worried I might come unstuck on this drive, I had nothing to worry about. I was told that I could move closer to the trees in front if I wanted to, however after a few misses decided I would prefer to persevere and keep trying to get that one long bird I was hoping for, I am delighted to say that I managed to. Drive 4 This was a quick duck drive, however they didn’t play ball. It was still a beautiful drive with stunning scenery and produced sporting birds, some of which had some real height to them. Non toxic shot was used. Drive 5 This was another mountain drive up in the hills. I was placed on a special peg down in a deep ravine that was almost directly in front of where I stood on drive 1. I climbed down to it and stood next to a beautiful waterfall and stream. In all honestly this peg was way too good for me and I believe it would test even the most experienced and regular guns. Birds were being presented at very good heights for those at ground level let alone me 40 foot below! Faced with a steep bank I waited and it didn’t take long for the birds to start flooding over the top of me relentlessly. I hope that one day I can return to that peg and do it justice. OJW
Hi Nice shooting Thanks for sharing If you don't mind me asking what do you use to film with Nice varied ground to shoot on All the best Of Hi OF, Thank you. I'm using a GoPro Hero 4 on a head mount. Youtube has "autocorrected" the video, making parts of it darker than they should be. I'm going through the process of undoing this, so hopefully in a bit the video will be more clear and back to normal shortly.
Big Al
Great write up and shooting. The scenery is stunning and you made some fine shots. That last drive looked very very testing. I am grateful that you let us "come along " with you on your shoots. I thoroughly enjoy your clips.

Its nice having you along, I can include more of the views in future. Thanks. You are becoming quite an expert. The 6th January pheasants may be too easy peasy for your skills. That's very kind but I've still got a long way to go! I still make frustrating mistakes and have loads to work on, the last peg there was way too good for me but I enjoyed every minute and it's worth it even if you just drop one (or non). I am really looking forward to the 6th and am sure I will miss plenty! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and hoping to get the chance to see you tackle some pigeons. I'm also sure that there will be real experts like yourself on the team and I will not be one of them! I've spent ages watching my slow motion misses, like you recommended, and seem to shoot over the top a lot. Did I notice you are using a 20 bore or was I mistaken. I have a gopro 4 how do you get videos on p/w forum. Tony No I was using my 12 bore, I have talked about 20 bores on here recently so maybe thats why you thought it was one. The easiest way to do it is to publish it onto Youtube and then below the youtube video click the "share" link and copy and paste it onto here. I made a Youtube channel called "The Muddy Peg" to do this as I didn't want to upload under my real name. Looked like a mirouk 32 inch with sipes but I could be mistaken Go on tell us everyone is interested in a man and gun that can deliver the goods All the best Of Haha, I would love to say I was using a 20bore but unfortunately I was not, it's a 32" Caesar Guerini Maxum "Game" 12bore, great gun, good value and well made. I'm not good enough to use a 20 bore at those birds yet. I had my work cut out with the 12. I would like to get a Miroku but I don't get along with the pistol grips, I like the Prince of Wales on mine, the new 20bore High Pheasant has a similar one so I'm very tempted to give it a go. albifrons
Hi, correct me if I am wrong, but is that Mark Partridges shoot, or has it changed hands? Great name for a game keeper!
E.w.
OJW, You shot remarkably well considering you had a lot of birds put over together it's the most difficult thing to stay with one bird as the temptation is to point the gun everywhere really did enjoy that vid and thanks for sharing. OJW
What a great day .... fantastic birds and scenery ... Isn't shooting just brilliant?! Isn't it just! I look forward to seeing more of your days out. Another brilliant video! What a great place to shoot. What chokes were you using and what cartridges? I shot with 3/4 and 3/4 and RAC JK6 cartridges on the Pheasant and Partridge and Fiocchi Steel Shot 35g 4's on the duck. Hi, correct me if I am wrong, but is that Mark Partridges shoot, or has it changed hands? Great name for a game keeper! Yes he is still the keeper, really nice guy and very knowledgeable. Ran the day like clockwork and made sure all the guns had a good level of sport. Can't thank him enough. Great name! OJW
Looked like a nice day. Were they electric cables your peg was under or telephone? John. I don't know, I was very carful not to use my second barrel and fire through them on the first drive in any case. The team and keeper are very experienced and I'm confident that we were pegged out safely and with a good regard for the lines. They were mentioned and we were told it was ok, I don't remember the exact reason why though, no one shot through them.
