AVB
My wife has agreed that I can get a Defender and we'll downsize from a Discovery 4 to a new Discovery Sport. Does anybody on here have one (a Discovery Sport)? if so how are you getting on with it? And anybody got a decent Defender 110 they want to sell? Up to £14K for the right one. robbiep
My dad got a new Disco Sport a few weeks ago, which replaced an Evoque which had been problematic from day 1 (he ended up taking the dealership to court to get it taken back). On day 4 of Disco Sport ownership, it shut down on him while at a set of traffic lights. LR emergency assist couldn't get it to start up again, and, as the electronic handbrake had applied itself and couldn't be let off, they had to lift the car onto the back of a towtruck. He has rejected it under the new Consumer Rights Act, and got a full refund.

I have had a number of Range Rovers and Discoveries and, touch wood, have not had problems with them. But I have heard poor things about recent Range Rovers and wonder if they are struggling with some of the newer technology.
WGD
My Dad bought one having had trouble free Discoverys, Range Rovers and an Evoque. He has no complaints at all, really likes the drive and it hasn't let him down at all. The seven seat design is very clever. Another friend bought one after a string of Disco 4s expecting to be disappointed. He is the opposite, not just pleasantly surprised but prefers it to his Disco 4. It does depend on how hard it will work, I have a Disco 4 and the only alternative for towing, load carrying and general use as a van would be a pickup - the DS would not compete in those stakes, but as a family car I've only heard very good reports. Mentalmac
I test drove one a couple of months back whilst deciding on my next company car... I felt that the Disco sport felt very 'company car' orientated, quite plasticy compared to a RR and I wasn't convinced with the drive really. You're not comparing like for like, it's a replacement for the Freelander when all's said and done.

Well true, apologies - in that case - i think it is better than the Freelander was
WinchesterDave
Mixed reviews here on the new DS. My dads looking at swapping his Tiguan for one this year; he test drove one a few weeks back and really liked it to drive. If we do get one its be the first LR we've ever had so let's hope it's a good one.
AVB
Mine (or more acurately the wife's) won't go off road at all. Any more than she lets me take the disco off road. That's why I am getting my own Defender!

That must be horrible, having a Disco with all that tech sat on your drive and being told you're not allowed to use it off road Should knock your self out with fun when you buy your big boy toy Defender get it extra muddy... Just because you can!

Just because you can! I know. I take it shooting at the moment and it gets a bit muddy from the road to the farm. That gets me grief. Then I might leave a few feathers in it. More grief. The odd dispensed cartridge even more. By the end of it the dog is in doors and I am in the dog house I do like LR's though. Not sure we would go for anything else. philm
I Have one, been in muddy fields no problem. Went on the Land Rover experience day and was amazes at what they can do and were they can go. disco's have more ground clearance is the only difference according to the experience instructor. casts_by_fly
We test drove one last month as we are buying a new car. We compared an X4, Mercedes GLC, and the Disco sport. We thought the disco sport quite good. My wife loved the evoque when it came out- sporty, modern looking, nicely appointed inside. However after riding in a few she didn't like it (small inside) and we ruled out LR. Enter the DS and back to the dealer we go. Our primary use would have been as a commuter for my wife and a primary family car (just us and 2 dogs, but also for ~2 friends to go places). It rides very nice and drives well. The suspension is smooth and the handling good. The interior is well appointed and the standard equipment is very good. My wife loved the look outside as it is a very modern design and looks good. I didn't like the 7-seats as we would never use them and they took up space (and were not removable). It was a serious contender. However, when we compared against the GLC and X4 the Disco sport came up short against both. The X4 was more sporty and familiar to us (coming from a 1-series). The handling was crisp and the ride very good. It was a lot punchier in power. The GLC was just full on nicer inside compared to both. The standard equipment on the GLC was incredible and even fully equipped it was cheaper than both at base prices. The GLC isn't the most sporty looking but it is still 'good' and the inside is awesome (better than the DS). Since we'll never take it off road the 4-matic AWD is more than enough (compared to the DS offroad options). We went for the GLC in the end for those reasons. thanks, rick
WGD
If considering the DS I would wait (or it may already have happened?) until they take the Freelander engine out of it.

WGD
Why ? When first released the diesel was the 2.2TD4 (I think?) from the Freelander, not the most modern engine. The plan was to replace that with a lighter, more economical unit, as far as I can recall.

rodp
Surely they have one of those new "Energiser" (?) engines, or whatever it is.
V8 90
I had a DS for a day last summer when my Evoque was in for service, I didn't like it at all - end of. I've just had a Disco 4 for 2 days whist I had a repair done on my Evoque & absolutely loved it - I'm trying to convince/justify myself & the Mrs that the extra running costs are worth it
