Dekers
What I know about these you could write on a postage stamp. Does anyone own one and can you fill in some blanks for me please. On the face of it the Rexton seems good, and good VFM, but like I say, I know nothing about SsangYong or the Rexton. Many thanks.
bluesj
basically a merc ml with all the good bits removed and replaced with the cheapest alternative, some parts can be a little hard to get and expensive. general service stuff is no more expensive than any thing else. Fuel pumps can be a problem, they can break up causing damage to the whole fuel system I think there is a lot better out there for the money Edited February 14, 2016 by bluesj
bornfree
The early 290 ones are very good no electronics to go wrong but showing their age now. The later 270 are much more complicated with common rail injection but better to drive.

Help me out then, my Land Rover has been a real Friday nightmare and I've had enough, what else is a lot better out there for the money? Thanks! I looked at the very latest top end model on Sat and they seem far better than the write ups I've seen suggest. Not been on a test drive yet and of course there is the resale/depreciation question. 5 years unlimited mileage warranty seems appealing on the face of it. Chris B123
If your going second hand, have a look at the Jeep grand cherokee, Merc drivetrain, the inside is typical American tat, but the depreciation after a couple of years is massive, so makes a good s/h buy. Fisheruk
I had a 270 auto. oK for 80000. Important to change transmission and dif oils as recommended Great vehicle on road and off. Launched fishing boat down a steep sandy bank into a Welsh river estuary for a couple of years and pulled Freelanders out that had smoked their clutches!! Since then I have moved on to Isuzu pickups. bear-uk
A customer of mine has one. They do outside catering for the Elite and recons it will go anywhere the Shooting party can get to in their Range Rovers. He loves it, and apart from normal running costs the 5 year warranty is a bonus. Its as good as his old Jeep and easier on the pocket. Harry Callahan
The old Jeeps were good - the square American ones. The newer curvy shaped ones are mechanically decent... but electrics are chocking. Know nothing of SsangYong - how about a Hyundai Santa-fe? It's a Toyota Landcruiser at a fraction of the price!! In my experience Hyundai electrics are shocking (no pun intended) they break down very early, wether if be cam sensors or window regulators, there wiring is carp! That's from approx 2007-2015. The earlier cars weren't too bad. On the op topic as previously said just a merc underneath. The only thing that concerns me with them is expensive if they go wrong and the crumple zone is the drivers door. Check vids on youtube and you will see what I mean! Hope its of some help

Hope its of some help That's fair enough... electrics can't be worse as a Jeep though - surely?? I guess that's the biggest issue with a lot of these Asian makes, probably nice when new and you can't argue with the likes of a 7 year warranty. But what about once 10 or 15 and that warranty is just a memory...
