Chicken killer?

I read an interesting post yesterday about the moral issue of shooting foxes at this time of year due to the risk of orphaning cubs. The reality of farming was evidenced when I got a text saying that a fox had killed 10 or so chickens on Monday night. I agreed to meet the farmer at 8 as he also had a new piece of ground to show me. As I was ready to go a little earlier then expected I headed down for about 7.30, parked up on the lane, rifle out, caller out ready to watch the one wood. I had a quick shine of the lamp over the other side of the ground just to check and to my surprise there were 2 foxes heading across the bank. I heard the dog bark so decided to set the vixen call going. After 15 or so seconds I picked up a flash of eyes so over to the NV, flicked the caller to "gekkering" and the fox came straight in...but alas due to a fence and hedge no shot presented itself. I watched it go 150 or so yards and disappear. Back on with the caller and spotted the second fox but again mainly obscured by a load of trees. After 10 seconds of crawling around on the farm track I had a clear shot and dropped a nice dog fox at 100 or so yards (bib shot, 80 grain soft point).

Farmer turned up so I took him to pick up the dead fox. He was happy but I still have some work to do to catch up with the vixen as well as having another small farm to explore where 3 foxes were recently spotted.

Thanks for reading

Nice one Mike. I'm hoping to put my N750A to good use on my return from holidays. What caller are you using?

Cheers Steve, I have had a decent number so far with the N750A. I am using a foxpro wildfire with some downloaded calls. The Gekkering gets them really interested.

Get them shot. Got some changes cken killers to sort myself.

Cheers U. Only had to put the one shot into this one

I'm using a FoxPro Spitfire with my own calls on it, but haven't got the 'gekkering' one.

PM me your e-mail address bud and I will e-mail it over to you. If you play a vixen and dog call then put the gekkering on its works a treat though I imagine they may well ignore it shortly.
