HuskyRich
Just wondering if theres any UK legal 'tactical' kind of over-unders or side by sides like the Mossberg Maverick HS12 or Stoeger tactical double defense shotguns? Pics: Mossberg Maverick: Stoeger: The Stoeger and Mossberg both have super short barrels (about 18 or 20") so are way under the UK barrel length, but was wondering if theres any other similar sort of shotguns that are UK legal? I've checked and unfortunately you can't get those with longer barrels... Shame as I kinda like that Mossberg Maverick HS12. And yes, I realise that a lot of people resent the whole 'tactical' thing and I can admit that the concept of a tactical double barrel shotgun is absurd - but that's why I love it... Because it IS totally ridiculous And to be honest, having a couple of picatinny rails on any gun is never a bad thing in my opinion But yeah, just wondering. Scully
Must admit I like that Mossberg. My T3 has picatinny rails but it doesn't look as good as that.
HuskyRich
Was just thinking, would the Mossberg HS-12 be legal on a FAC? http://www.mossberg.com/product/maverick-hs12-thunder-ranch-overunder-75462/ Barrel Length 18.5"Overall Length 36.5"How hard would it be to get a FAC for something like that? Also, would have to import one as there are none in the UK - I guess that would be an arseache in itself? kennett
Unfortunately I doubt "for a laugh" counts as a good reason for a fac application!

Because it IS totally ridiculous Stormin' Norman had one beside his bed during that little skirmish in the Middle East a few years back. Jaymo
I have a copy of the Mozzie-- it's by Manuchasse with a 18.5 barrel in black synthetic. At the moment it's here with me in France but will be coming over with me to go on my FAC later in the year. Spoke to the FEO about it when I originally put in for the variation and 'walked up/ confined woodland' shooting would be a good reason. Edit, don't think there is anywhere in Practical Shotgun regs that says you can't use an O/U to compete? :-) Edited March 27, 2016 by Jaymo
saddler
All the above would be ideal for "Target Shotgun" type events - so UK legal section 1/FAC guns, as the barrel is over 12" & the total length over 24" Not so useful for "practical" shotgun courses of fire though... Wingman
Why would you want something like that? Seems a bit of military wannabee to me.
Jaymo
And why wouldn't you? People have 4x4's and never see anything higher than a curb. I believe the sentence I'm really looking for is ------ freedom of choice.

HuskyRich
Because I like random things. Especially things that are a bit ridiculous and pointless. Horses for courses innit. Also there are benefits to having a shorter gun, not only that but especially one with rails! I just have a thing about picatinny rails. I like to accessorise But in all seriousness, be handy to just have a proper mount (or two) on a gun to mess about with sights or stick a torch or lamp straight on without having to worry about finding a mount that fits and then faffing about to get one fitted (and fit it straight!). I do a lot of shooting on the farm (all of it on foot wandering about) and especially shoot a lot of rats and rabbits etc at night, and a lot of it in the woods around feeders and such - I don't have an airgun or anything plus the boss pays for cartridges so I don't mind blasting away with a shotgun. I did get a rail fitted to my old over and under and had a little surefire on it. Was brilliant. A little short gun with proper rails on it would be a handy addition to the cabinet for me. Plus, I just like it. It's so much better looking and practical than those hatsans and revos IMO. Edited March 27, 2016 by HuskyRich
Imperfection
Being double barreled,i do believe it would be perfectly legal for them to also have rifling.

This quote & the one from Scully boil my pee as just because the gun is tactical & not the norm the op is branded a nutter or psycho. We all shoot & enjoy it so why look down at some one because of a gun they like the look of. We get enough of this from the non shooting public & the press with out it coming from within the shooting community. This is why we lost pistols & self loading cf rifles because some one did not like them, like us having them & with the EU looking to restrict us law abiding sportsman even more we should not be making comments as above as this will be our down fall. I thought the 'smilie' following my initial post in this thread may have given a clue as to how the 'psycho' comment was meant, but obviously not. I'm a big fan of all things practical and tactical; basically being a gun nut. I used to shoot practical pistol many years ago.
