I have a door and wood stripping company near where I live and was considering getting them go professionally dip and strip the stock and forend. I just wondered if anyone has ever done this and how it turned out? According to their website they do a whole door for 30 quid so it should be a cheap option as well. rimfire4969 Posted May 15, 2016 Report Share Posted May 15, 2016 I use nitromors on mine and wire wool. Gets them back to bare wood, sometimes takes s few goes. figgy Posted May 15, 2016 Report Share Posted May 15, 2016 Don't get tank stripped like doors, the wood will be ruined and chances are it will split. wisdom Posted May 15, 2016 Report Share Posted May 15, 2016 Commercial stripping as well as the possibility of the splitting could alter the cast and general shape of the stock.Doesnt matter on a door as you can plane it or let pieces in Rimfire4969 has the right method. figgy Posted May 15, 2016 Report Share Posted May 15, 2016 This is getting worse, both will remove the finish and any resins in the wood along with it. rimfire4969 Posted May 16, 2016 Report Share Posted May 16, 2016 I have just finished a oiled stock and Nitromors and wire wool did the job, this stock had not been touched since it was made in the early 70's. It took a few coats then rubbing with wire wool very fine grade and a good wipe down with meths or similar to make sure it's all removed and leave to dry and see what it's like then do it again if needed.
