pigeon controller
During the week I received a request for some pigeons, now that usually is the "Kiss of Death" for any sport at the weekend but it also makes it a "Pressure Weekend". Wth that in mind we set out to look at the Spring rape I shot last week . The first field was zero so we drove to the other two fields to find three flightlines running across them but no birds down . We watched it for thirty minutes to determine the best hide position, once we had decided we carried the gear across the field. When we arrived at our shooting position we were confronted with a deep ditch in the edge we wanted to shoot , so we walked down and along the ditch to a suitable position to shoot from. We set out the twelve birds as decoys in a "U" infront of us on spikes. The first birds came in as if on zip wires so we knew we were in the right position. It was now 14.00 and we shot till 17.30 and in that time we had pigeons ,Magpies and Jackdaws come over our position but we still had three lines running over the field and only one feeding our decoys but we ended up with twentythree pigeons, two magpies and eight Jackdaws. Not a mega bag but the best we could gather under the conditions. When we arrived at DBs house we had a phone call from a farmer who had just spooked onehundred and fifty pigeons off his peas while he was spraying, this was at 19.30 . Saturday saw me pick up DB at 10.00 to head out the the pea field , we had a look at other fields on the way but saw no birds. We drove down to the pea field and spooked about twenty off the field, we watched it for thirty minutes with very little action so we went for the comfort hide out of the sun with the wind off our backs and set up with ten birds from the day before seven on cradles and three angels. In the first two hours we had four birds down so I decided to walk the perimeter of the field and spook any birds in the trees etc. during my walk I did push some birds to the decoys but on the far edge of the field I found a recent hide position with the broken twigs still green which would account for the spooky birds. On my return to the hide we agreed to stick it out even though it was slow it was the best we had seen. It was now 15.00 and we had about twenty down. Bunny Blaster had popped round to get some decoys before I went out so I hoped he would be able to swell the numbers at the end of the day. At approx 17.00 the activity increased across the field and we were having pairs come to the decoys and we started to bag up , we finished shooting at 19.00 and collected up fiftyeight pigeons so with replacing decoys we still had a number to satisfy the requested order. Bunny Blasters day did not go to plan as the flock he spooked off the intended field did not return?? Ive suggested Golf??

M42, M40 is a good corridor for pigeons, always see good flight lines crossing both, its just some areas seem to hold pigeons better that others. If you ain't got them in your area you can look as much as you like.
