Early mornings and late nights

Life seems to have become all to hectic of late so balancing all the other things with shooting is a bit of a pain. I decided to get out after the corvids on Saturday morning but needed to be home for about 9.00....not good. Alarm went of at 3.45 and I was all set up at 4.30 ready to go, the only thing missing was the crows...they must have been having a lie in  5.00 am the alarm must have gone off and out they came, though not in the sort of numbers that warranted getting up so early. I had some steady shooting until 8.30 when I needed to call it a day. i managed 33 and 1 magpie so not to bad. A couple of highlights included a 2 for 1 shot on a couple of carrions. I lined up on the first and as i fired the second (about 15 yards above) lined up perfectly. No 1 fell stone dead and no 2 made it 20 yards before dropping out of the sky. The second highlight was a hare who trotted into the pattern, sniffed a dead crow and then hopped off in disgust.

A new permission i took on 3 weeks ago had spotted cubs but as yet I havent seen them so i thought i better take another look. they own 4 farms so i headed to a 60 acre plot first for an hour to no avail. i arrived at the main farm about 12.00 (midnight) and parked up. i decided to have a quick lamp before i got the rifle, sticks and caller out....I was greeted by a nice pair of foxy looking eyes. I got the rifle out and turned on the NV to confirm it was a fox, which it was. rifle onto the bonnet of the pickup, fox about 80 yards, 80 grain bullet away, fox down. 20 seconds to shoot him so a nice quick result, nice big dog fox . headed out looking for the vixen and cubs, but no luck. Got to bed at 2.15 am so a long old day but good fun. Thanks for reading

Cheers mate. Does nothing for my good looks...no wait I am ugly so it doesnt matter as much

I'm glad that you managed to get out , well done,

Cheers PC. I have taken on a couple more farms with a decent amount of wheat and barley so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I may actually be able to shoot some pigeons later in the year.....though the signs arent looking great at the moment .

Great day Mike . That's still a good result in my book on the corvids . Always nice to get a quick result on Charlie too :good:

Cheers Mark. Just need some deer to move into the area...be a good man and send that roe buck we saw down for a holiday :lol:

A long day Mike but plenty to show for your efforts, the dog fox looked in fine fettle especially this time of year, well done.

Cheers buddy. I took the pic of his best side as the other one was a little bit of a mess. It is very rare that any of the foxes I shoot are in poor condition. Good clean living....and Welsh Lamb  Take it easy

Cheers mate. No update yet, I will try and give him a shout.

Good going on the covid's and fox, Mike. :good:

Cheers Steve

Good results there Mike. Early morning I can understand but a late night on the same day is very keen :). I hope you got a lie in Sunday

Thanks buddy. I think it is partly stupidity on my part and also that I have taken on nearly 1000 acres extra ground in the last 6 months so needs must at the moment. I had a meeting near Bristol yesterday morning so was up at 5.00 and then out after the foxes last night so got home at 1.30 a.m. Managed to shoot a good sized dog fox cub (12-14 weeks old) but not a real fan of posting pics of dead cubs, not after a .243 round has done its work.
