oowee
RS we missed you. Great pic. Fox hunter another fine pair. Here I was after bucks this morning and unfortunately hit a roe in the truck at 0500. Truck is ok apart from grill . Roe was mush but some meat was salvaged. Arrived at shoot saw lots of doe's and then a doe running towards me followed by a youngster and quick behind a buck heading straight for me. He stopped at about 20yds ran back in to the barley and stopped about 50yds out. A freehand neck shot and he was mine.

WelshMike
Well done gents, some good fox and deer shooting by the sounds of it. I have been letting the side down of late as I have been busy with work, bees and house related stuff so havent been out much. Managed a quick session on Saturday night (no pun intended). Arrived on the ground and spotted 3 foxes playing in the next field (which I cant shoot). Quick squeak and they all legged it....at least I know not to try and hand squeak them again. Drew a blank on the rest of the ground but as usual one showed just as I was about to leave. 50 yard chest shot off the stick, nice and easy.....missed...ooops....followed the fox and concentrated a little more and down he went to the second shot. 3/4 grown dog fox cub. No pic as phone was in the truck. Keep up the good work gents

Chasing it across the field and clubbing it with a certain bag in anger after a miss is not a secound shot though Edited July 24, 2017 by bumpy22
WelshMike
Well done mike. Chasing it across the field and clubbing it with a certain bag in anger after a miss is not a secound shot though That is a little unfair. I actually threw the man bag and as such it counts as a projectile and a second shot

tonker
I know I won't be getting out much over the next couple of weeks so I'll bore you with a long post now, I thought I'd give it a whirl tonight. Parked up by the farm entrance about 8.45pm. that allowed me a nice gentle stroll across a field over a track and up another field to a stack of silage bales 5 high. As these are on top of a downward sloping field it gave me a good vantage point, only trouble is there are cows and calves everywhere now so have to be really on your toes. I was up at the same field the other day but in a different place (in the hedge) when right on dumpsie dark I spotted a fox coming from a different place than I expected I managed not to move until he was in the hedge about 100yds up from me and I thought it was on it's way up to see the chickens. I knew I couldn't show myself so tried to turn myself in the brambles to face where he was likely to come back from. Only to find him 50 yds up the hedge looking straight at me because I couldn't turn quietly. He shot back into the hedge calling like mad. I waited an age for him to make his move across the field, and when he went, he went like the clappers and no amount of shouting OI at the top of my voice would make him even glance my way, or slow. Anyway tonight I was in position facing the right way, and sure enough at about the same time as the other night I could see him making his way down through the suckler herd to a gap under the fence that the Badgers use a lot. As he ducked under it I lost him for a second or two but out he popped a bit farther down the hedge. No shot on here because of calves about 50 yds behind him. Trouble was he was going down the hedge the wrong way getting farther away. I can't tell you why but he turned 90 degrees and started trotting out into the middle of the field and away from the livestock. Result I thought! I had to let him pass behind a cow then a shed on an island of a pond which houses a water pump, and then he was in the clear at about 140 yds I gave him a quick whistle just to attract his attention, and let one of my .222 homeloads go in his direction. A pleasing thud and down he went. His mate was calling from the hedge for a good quarter of an hour but never showed herself, In fact anybody who knows me, knows I'm a bit mutton Geoff and I though it was a Buzzard calling from a tree to start with. Anyway you're probably bored by now. Thanks for getting to the end. ( He looks lean but he certainly felt heavy) Edited July 25, 2017 by tonker

oowee
Great write up tonker and good effort. I was out on the Buck's Monday evening and after seeing lots of doe's and bumping a buck but no shot returned to the truck. Spotted a fox trotting across the field, maybe 80 yds. A quick bark he stopped and was down. An easy shout but satisfying after drawing a blank for the rest of the evening. https://ibb.co/kfvt25
tonker
Thanks guys, it's nice when a plan comes together with the result you wanted. Off to the Orkney's now for a while, and then back to the mainland for a bit, If anyone can remember Monarch of the glen we've hired Golly's cottage on the Glenbogle estate ( not the estates real name). Should be great as no public allowed on the estate unless you have a cottage and as I'm an antisocial bum suits me down to the ground. Three Munroes to do on the estate though so that should get the heart pumping. Worst part about it is that I shan't be picking up a rifle for three weeks, but look out when I get back

racing snake
Nice work Grant, Tonker. Really starting to get the itch now. No way I can get out for a couple of weeks, then I'm off for a fortnight at the end of August. The plan was to really put some hours in on the sea trout, but after visiting the fox club again for the first time since late Spring and seeing the shooting you gents are putting in I think I'm going to have to make a start on Charlie a bit earlier than planned!
