Found a few.

Earlier in the week I was driving along the road near home and I spied pigeons flying over the road. I thought no more about it until the following day when I saw pigeons doing the same thing in the same place. Curiosity got the better of me and I pulled over to see a great line going into a pea field. Seeing a tractor going along a track I drove after it lights flashing and the young driver gave me the farmers name, showed me where he lived and within ten minutes I had permission to shoot the peas, not only the field I had seen but another larger field further along a track.

Mightymariner has been kind to me of late when I have had nothing to shoot so naturally I asked him along today. The omens were good in the first field - about 200 pigeons entering along the line I had seen. In the larger field there were 600 pigeons. My reasoning went out of the window and a rope banger was placed in the larger field and we shot the smaller one.

We had a bit of fun but it was pretty slow at times, the only excitement was when the banger went off and a cloud of pigeons by now numbering more than 600 lifted into the sky from the larger field. We picked 32 pigeons and couldn't resist going to have a look in the larger field after we had packed up. The lines into that field were a real spectacle, even at 18:00 hrs.

MM is much more philosophical than I am stating that they would be there for another day. I might be dead by then. We should have shot it.

Pitty about the banger, sounds like you could of had a bumper bag. I would have been tempted to turn it off for the afternoon.

How was the new gun? can you get on with it?

No we put the banger out, at least we put out a rope banger to keep them out of the big field. That failed. The farmer hadn't bothered.

As for the new gun, finding the safety catch is a problem, remembering that there are three cartridges is another. It is not for me to say whether I shot well with it or not.

Oh i see, the bumper bag is yet to come then.

Knowing how modest you can be i would imagine you shot well with the new gun, good to hear.

We had a nice afternoon on the side of the Wolds, not too hot, not too cold, light winds, no rain, occasional report from a shotgun to disturb the peace....oh, and a biblical number of pigeons on the field we didn't shoot!!

Seriously, those pigeons will be there for sometime. It is well hidden, no other pigeon shooters and a farmer who apparently doesn't bother with bangers or kites. It will be good next week.

31 on Monday and 5 yesterday. Such a big a big field to cover, sat watching a few hundred drop in to where I shot on Monday, having seen a big lot drop in the where I shot yesterday, on Monday. I even bought and used some rope bangers yesterday, but they had little effect, just lifting them into nearby trees, only to drop straight back in. It needs a couple more guns to cover it and push them about.

We have a work party on the shoot on Saturday, so I'll have another go and see if anyone else wants a crack.
