ditchman
Farmer dropped me an e-mail saying the pigeons were starting to pay attention to the big field of barley.....i have to go past my areas on the way to the shop everyday (its only just down the road)........ so reading about JDogs forays i slung the A303 in the back and bag of ammo...and off i trundeled ......i pulled up near the small muck heat and to my delight across the field in my favourite spot a intermittent stream of birds were flicking thro two large oak trees at about 30ft off the ground.......so i made my way in the vehicle to the other side of the field................. parked up and hid the l/r as best as i could about 50yds away ...then walked back to where the two trees were ...loaded up....lit a fag and leaned back into the tree..............sure enough....trade started to come my way....the wind was buffeting the bird off a straight line but was still heading this way...it then turning fighting its way into the wind then about 200yds away it turned again and was flying oblickly to the wind and getting a real lick on.....i slowly raised the gun to port position as it screamed through the gap...i was comfortable in my stance and was facing where i knew i was going to shoot it....i leaned forward and pushed thro' right to left ...and blatted it in a cloud of feathers at 35yds..........dead chuffed...i checked the choke and found i still had full choke in...so unloaded and swapped it for half choke......the next half an hour i got 10 for 10.......... all the birds came thro the gap at the same hieght and speed....it was like shelling peas.....i was really made up.... i seem to remember i posted a few pics last year in the same field in the same place 'cept i was in a hide and it was late autumn.......would have stayed longer but it started to tiddle with rain and i needed to to the shopping....................... on the way back near home i stopped for 5 mins near a wheat field and watched 10 or so birds ...glide in and belly flop onto the wheat to push it down to eat it................i smiled ...they were playing ball for a change and good things were to come.......... JDog
10 for 10? You should stick to gardening. It is good to read of a foray of yours at long last.

marsh man
I was fairly close to your neck of the woods yesterday walking around three fields of barley to see how much have been flattened as the pigeons were giving it a bit of stick, but due to a school , cricket pitch and a road around the outside the only place to set up would be in the middle of the field and with rain not to far off I went on the sugar beet field next door and got 20 odd that were going in and out of the barley . If you fancy a go , which might involve a bit of walking by all means get in touch , happy belated birthday and well done getting 100% . I sometimes do it with the first shot of the day but by the time I have fired the second shot my average normally drop by half

kenholland
if you hit the first one with full choke then chained to half choke then the rest was a piece of cake well done.
