.22LR what would you buy?

IMO there's no advantage in having one on a rimfire. It's just heavier to carry round but zero difference in accuracy. I see the point if you are target shooting with a centrefire as the barrel doesn't heat up as quickly.

The stock material is also personal choice. I have some synthetic stock guns and some wood. I prefer synthetic just because I don't have to worry about knocking or scratching it. The only laminate one I've seen was quite heavy and again, I don't see the point if it's going to be a rabbit gun.

Brilliant, thanks I was thinking the same about synthetic

I'd second what Walshie says.

The varmint barrel is much heavier as is the thumb hole laminate Stock on the CZ455 at least.

I wish I hadn't bought new as I could have saved half of what I spent but didn't know how easy it was to find decent s/h.

Try Rabbitbosher and see what he's got ?

Ok great, thanks, I was apprehensive about buying used incase it's shot out, how to I spot at bad one?

I'm in west wales Elvis. Are you anywhere near me?

Unfortunately it would be difficult to be further away, I live in East Angular! Thanks for the offer though. I love West Wales, have many happy memories of family holidays as kids in Towyn, Aberystwyth and Abersoch, always rained though!

The inner child is strongly edging towards 10/22 semi auto, it just sounds fun! What are the reasons for bolt over semi auto??

If you go down the 10/22 road be prepared to upgrade it.

Bolt actions in general are more accurate than semis, and semis can be a nuisance ejecting cases where you don't want them. Semis can also be fussy cycling certain subs. I have both, but my 452 is my go-to rabbit gun.

Excellent, thanks, that settles it..

The American is/was available in walnut and beech and doesn't have open sights which suits me. There is also variation in barrel length across the different models, but I think the actions are all identical.

Many thanks

Thanks, is the American just Beech or are there any other differences?

If you go for a 452, the american is wood and the silhouette is the same gun in synthetic stock.

If you go for a 455, the american is wood and i believe the synthetic version is just called the 455 synthetic.

hello, before i got my FAC i asked the same question as i was going from a sub 12 .177 air rifle and many mentioned a CZ L/R as a good all round vermin rifle in .22, done some research and went for the light weight 455 with synthetic stock which i since filled to stop the shot echo, now instead of 35/40 yards as with air rifle i can do 50 to 80, used all last winter with n/v till late april this year when i changed to a day scope. changed trigger spring to, am very pleased with rifle

No reason you can't go out to a 100m with a .22 firing subs

No need to feel left out shooting egg, the marlins savages etc can be good accurate rifles, its just czs are common and they work very well, if you asked this exact same question on a louesiana vermin forum, the marlin most likely would get a much heavier folowing than on here.
