OK, but did the multi-skilled guy get £75?

Boss told his brother that the multi is gonna start decorating the inside of the house we are doing an extension at after the multi gets back off holiday. Now before this the multi said to the bosses brother that ehen he's on holiday he's gonna think about his future. So the bosses brother rung up the multi saying the boss said your starting the decorating after your back off holiday to which the Multi replied yeah, so bosses bro said I thought you were going to decide what your going to do whilst on holiday so are you staying and the multi replied well the boss didn't offer me a better deal so I'm staying haha. All that fuss. He didn't even ask the boss for a fetter deal and was hoping it all fed back to the boss so he makes an offer but didn't. He doesn't know I'm getting pay rise so that gonna go down like a lead balloo! It's like eastenders on here.

Rule no. 1 Never discuss your salary/bonus. Rule no. 2 If you get a poor pay rise/bonus then puff your chest out and look smug. It's important that others think you are a big swinging ****.

This is a small family firm and everyone knows what eachother earns. Since I started everyones moaned about money and none of us are on big bucks to boast about it.

Your joking right ???

Some people live in their own worlds and therefore don't see what other people have to live on.....

Hopefully he never gets into the circumstances that warrant he has to live on a lot less than £500 per week like a lot of people do,

It's just a reflection of the have and have nots these days

You really have no idea about me or my circumstances :shaun:

My point is that you can look at similar professions with similar skill levels where the pay scale can be far better. Nursing as an example.

A lot of folk seem to earn a damned sight more for no good reason and most wont be worn out by the time they get near to a pension unlike most builders. I'm 51 and feeling it now. How many more years can I do, I don't know. You need paying well because of that if nothing else.

You missed my point,

A LOT of people live on less than £500 per week because of different circumstances,

Minimum wage now is £7:20

Let's say 40 hour week, if you're lucky because a lot of people are on zero hours contracts

So that's £288 per week,

So to then read that "I wouldn't like to live on £500 per week" is a kick in the teeth for them,

You're right, I don't know your circumstances, as you don't know mine, but yours are nothing to do with me and mine the same is nothing to do with you.

But sometimes a little thought before some people post might not be a bad idea as it sometimes comes across as arrogance and condescending,

I have no doubt you didn't mean it that way and in conversation it would come across different but the written word is black and white and has no feelings in the way it is read,

You read my response to your post but probably didn't get what I was trying to say, as it was written,

I wasn't having a dig or a pop, I was pointing out the difference in people's circumstances,

But as I said, it was written and you seemed to read different to what I was trying to say.

A lot of folk also live on a damned site more than £500 a week. My income is very middling. The minimum wage is a pittance and people who are prepared to live on that really need to up their game.

As a bricklaying gangerman i allocate wages on a production basis, top producers earn accordingly! Nowhere to hide on pricework, puts everyone on an unlevel playing field if you see what i mean. All animals are equal etc....

A good friend who also shoots is a brickie and has been doing price work for ages. He's been getting £200 a day and on Saturdays he said we get 'double bubble' to which I replied £400!!!!! The he said I have to pay tax on that to which I replied 'tax' that's nearly what I earn a week haha. How do they price for paying such high sums?

After that response I'm out

winnie&bezza, congrats on getting your rise :good:

Money aye. Root of most problems. Thanks anyway mate.

Id guess that a lot of the minimum wage workforce , are working longer and harder than most of us and doing their level best to break out of that minimum wage cycle.

They are only paying the price for work done so it shouldnt be that much higher than pricing other ways. Its an incentive to go harder and make some great money. One place last year was paying £17ishm2 for skinning kits and we were doing 200 blocks,20m2 in a 9 hr day comfortably and when doing their stonework/slaps the prices were even better so you knocked your pan in but it well worth it.Was 3hrs travelling a day but for money like that you dont mind.

Going by this thread we seem very lucky as some of the wages mentioned, both subbied and PAYE,are on par or lower than 15ish years ago.

As for folk getting blasted for saying they wouldnt like to live on £500,they have a point although i wouldnt personally have said it on here but i wouldnt like to live on it either nowadays.I COULD live on it but after the years of good money it would be a wee bit of a shock
