tweedledee
guys I bought a 26"miroku for a nephew to start shooting.its an absolute peach..it's meant to be a skeet gun but throws fairly tight patterns.bottom barrel says .719 and has** the top barrel has .729 and has **-.....haven't a choke gunge at home and wondering if anyone can clarify what it's choked at....thanks
TIGHTCHOKE
Two stars suggest 3/4 in each tube, Not what I would expect, can you take some photographs and post the markings. Edited October 30, 2016 by TIGHTCHOKE
wymberley
Because of the 719/729 discrepancy the only way you can accurately determine the actual nominal choke boring is go to a RFD who has a proper internal bore gauge and can compare the mean barrel diameter with that of the choke. You can't ignore the possibility that it's been fettled since it was stamped. The only way you can find out how it's choked in practice is to pattern it. tweedledee
I think its a 3800 it has a tear drop stock and seems pretty high grade.... .. honestly don't think its ever been fettled with its as original as they get
old'un
looks like a 800s or sw, is the for-end rounded?
tweedledee
yes..can't seem to date it by serial number either
JRDS
Looks a nice one, don't get too hung up on chokes but ** is generally 3/4 with * being full and ***** Improved Cylinder.
tweedledee
if that is the case is it not tight for a skeet gun....I'm over the moon with it .it's as tight as the day it was made....wanted somethin shorter for the wee lad my 30 inch guerini was too long for him
Stonepark
.719 barrel is nominally modified ** (1/2 choke) and the. 729 is nominally Improved Cylinder **- (1/4) choke. So could be a 20 thou restriction on the. 719 giving. 699 or could be. 719 with a 10 thou restriction to give. 709. However as Wymberley has mentioned above, it may have had work done for skeet purposes. I'm afraid you will have to pattern it and count pellets to be sure. tweedledee
I ll be happier if choke is tighter. quarter and half would be ideal..do him well for decoying..clinker wee gun they don't make them like that anymore
wymberley
If it was sold as skeet, not quite sure what, "it's meant to be a skeet gun " means though, it could be because someone knows the chokes have been opened up and you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at it and it wouldn't detract from the gun's looks. Ah, just been made aware of Stonepark's. post.
Glenlivet
As it's not multi choke it is what it is. It looks very nice, if you're lad's happy with it then enjoy. 😊
old'un
I have the 800sw bought new in 1977 and still going strong.
tweedledee
totally understand your point..I think 26 inch barrels were normal for skeet back in that era.defo chokes are tighter than skeet.....26 barrels not a great seller nowadays.just a wee starter gun for nephew...will invest in a choke guage thanks old un...would 77 on the serial number denote the year it was made.reckon this will be handy in a pigeon hide
buze
Perhaps it was meant for a lady originally? I agree it looks like a 3800, grade 4; it's probably awesome to shoot too!
tweedledee
as far as I'm aware it was a one owner gun.elderly gentleman gave it up
B25Modelman
that was in the days when short guns could hit 40 yard birds...nowadays to MUST have 32" barrels for 40 yard birds.

tweedledee
if I was using it myself I'd have it removed in a heartbeat..... my guerini and even new miroku closes with a clunk now compared to the ring of them older guns...I reckon the steel was better back in the day
