wymberley
Perhaps it was meant for a lady originally? I agree it looks like a 3800, grade 4; it's probably awesome to shoot too! Never mind, you'll learn.
CharlieT
I is indeed an 800 and will be choked as imp and half. It will throw extremely well regulated patterns more than capable of killing 40+ yard birds Like that other learned gentleman, I have been shooting mine since the mid 70's and never found it wanting. Father and I bought one each and I now have his and use them as a pair and hope to pass them on to my Grandsons.
old'un
yes..can't seem to date it by serial number either There seems to-be very little on dating Miroku guns, but as yours does not have any letter following the serial number I would guess 80s plus the engraving is the same as the old 800, not sure when they started making the 3800 but they did change the style of the action from the 800 model, the picture is not my gun but it is the same model as mine. You will not go far wrong with this gun and it will last a life time and more, like I said I brought mine new in 1977 cost £387 from Benjamin Wild Birmingham. buze
if I was using it myself I'd have it removed in a heartbeat..... my guerini and even new miroku closes with a clunk now compared to the ring of them older guns...I reckon the steel was better back in the day My B25 makes a fantastic ring, I also miss that with the guerini -- however it's a wildly different action on these; 525's, Mirokus all have that 'ring' -- I haven't found another gun that does it as good as that :-)
tweedledee
yep hand made brownings are mighty guns too.sadly I've no love for newer miroku or brownings...they miss that ring Edited October 30, 2016 by tweedledee
HDAV
There seems to-be very little on dating Miroku guns, but as yours does not have any letter following the serial number I would guess 80s. Pre 1975 it's tricky after that they use the browning date code system some, thing about a typhoon in 1971 destroying the factory records so with no letters must be 70's or older. The 3800 came out in the 80's I think and ran until mid 90's when it changed to the mk38 late 3800 are basically mk38 early ones are different (flat spring in he early ones and coil in the later ones? wymberley
Anything other powerful insights, beside that? That was deep, man. Why on earth would you think that a 12 bore double barreled shotgun with 26" barrels could possibly have been made for a lady. To take that to the extreme, a 410 with 25" barrels could have been made as a club gun for a kinder garten play group. ANY shotgun is made for the use ANYbody who wishes to do so. Obviously, physical capability comes into the equation but just because the barrels are of a certain length is neither here nor there. Obviously, physical capability comes into the equation but just because the barrels are of a certain length is neither here nor there. Very high horses, lovely. Perhaps you could have expressed yourself constructively in the first place without trying to be snipy with a ridiculous oneliner. My reference point is my wife, who shoots with me all the time and had to decide on barrel length on a new gun. 30 didn't do, 28 she picked but it's till 300g heavier than her other gun -- so she wondered about a 26" gun. So my point was valid, people looking for lighter guns MIGHT have liked that 26" gun, and there was nothing disrespectful about my question -- and in fact it was a question, not a statement, so *** are you talking about, anyway? Scully
My little 101 Field is choked at 1/4 and 1/2, and has 27" barrels. It is the sweetest little gun I own and I've killed some of the highest birds I've ever shot with it.
B25Modelman
What we also forget is that barrels are measured from breach face to muzzle face so take off the 3" length of the fired cartridge and you have an even shorter length that is engaged in shot flow. It's a funny old game. My A1 27.5" skeet/skeet as I have said before minces 40 yards birds, edge and face on. Oppps sorry it's really a 24.5". db135
I put my skeet choke in my sx3 on Sunday did 50 sporting clays nailed sum realy long crossing left and rights a was surprised how well I still managed to break them at them ranges
bruno22rf
Try Cylinder and Skeet db135 - breaks clays at impressive ranges, Important to remember that a clay can break with a single pellet and that you don't need to "kill" it. BTW - on the subject of older Miroku's, I bought one about 2 months back for £200 and had the nasty stock oil finished - it's a 3000 and I had intended to move it on and make a couple of quid but the thing is so nice to shoot that it now sits at the front of my O/U rack. Danger-Mouse
Looks very similar to the SW800 that I used to have. That had 26" barrels and iirc was 1/4 and 1/2. Everyone used to assume it was a skeet gun because of the barrel length. Lovely guns.
