steve_b_wales
I've just read that this was passed in the House of Lords today. The Government has amended the Bill to address firearm certificate renewals and expanding ammunition. The changes mean that expanding ammunition of the kind used for deer stalking moves back to Section 1; and if a renewal has been submitted in a timely fashion and the police have failed to determine the renewal the certificate before the expiry date then the certificate will remain valid for a further period of eight weeks. These amendments, which are supported by the police, are the result of the hard work of the Countryside Alliance working with the British Shooting Sports Council (BSSC) and the other member organisations, and with Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Shooting and Conservation. Lloyd90
Is this the amendment that means bullet heads (not made up rounds) that were previously only available when showing your FAC can now be bought online/ by mail ?

mick miller
[engage pedant] what's a bullet 'head'? do you simply mean bullet? please can we all read and digest this simple diagram and start using the correct, standardised nomenclature: https://www.hunter-ed.com/washington/studyGuide/Parts-of-a-Cartridge-and-Caliber/20105001_700046700/ a bullet 'head' is, from what I can tell, the part forward of the ogive to the metplat or point, pretty useless on it's own. [disengaging pedant] if this means we can finally post bullets without stoopit restrictions (and perhaps hold unlimited amounts) this can only be a good thing. Brodie
A step in the right direction but not a great help when some forces, like Essex, have delays far longer than 8 weeks.
Walker570
Move to Leicestershire and have sensible, helpful and prompt help. These new rules go somewhere towards common sense but not near anywhere far enough. My view is that once you have held a FAC or SGC for five years then your next issue should be for life. It is not beyond the wit of anyone to write in rules of engagement. Move house ..notify, sell gun .... notify buy gun.....notify etc. We all seem to get an 'Open Certificate' after five years, so they seem to trust us to make those decisions. I have spoken with many senior police officers over the years and non of them could give me any satisfactory answer how restricting a license to five years makes the situation any safer. The life time license would save tens of thousands of pounds which could be spent on more mineral water for the numties in charge of police forces to put on their conference tables. For sure they wouldn't put the money back into bobbies out doing a proper job. Edited November 11, 2016 by Walker570

I've been banging on about this for years, it seems our representative organisations are incapable of pushing for a system of firearm licensing that will be fair, benefit shooters and cost the Police next to nothing to administrate! Or is this the problem?

Savhmr
It's still awaiting Royal Ascent amongst other things, so isn't law yet. The CA had to withdraw and amend their announcement after receiving a reprimand from the Home Office. Their site announcement seems to have now been amended to "... and we look forward to them becoming legally binding in the near future..." Not law yet, so bullets cannot be bought or sold by post which are currently S5 until it is made law. Good news though, assuming all goes through smoothly.
