Hendrix's rifle
Just a quick one, what do you guys keep your cartridges in? I know by law you can keep them out however if prefer them to be in something lockable. Cheers

benspain_uk
Snoozer - can I please ask if you know how many boxes you can fit in this safe? It might work great for me but I don't really want something that only fits 500 carts - needs to be more like 1500 so I can restock with 1000 before I run out. Thanks! ChrisPCarter
Under the bed I've considered making a bed out of slabs with a mattress on top, I could keep loads and would have more space in my spare room lol Wife isn't so keen on the idea. eastdevon
Gun cabinet is located downstairs and cartridges are in another gun cabinet which is buried in the floor upstairs under carpet. Hmmmm think I may swap gun downstairs to upstairs!

As i am waiting on my SGC and the cabinet to arrive i can't tell you exactly how many boxes of 250 carts will fit but i worked out it should hold a good wedge. I ordered it because i want to store a good amount save keep buying a box at a time lol and it has a removable shelf which i figured may facilitate a tad of extra room.. Dimensions are: External: H 500 x W 350 x D 310mm If someone can give us the measurements of a 250 box of carts....Please

ChrisPCarter
Am I right in thinking you can keep 10,000 at home based on the amount of powder before needing an explosives license?
Snoozer
Ok i make it 6 boxes 4 stacked and 2 on their side so 1500 in total with the shelf removed. I wish i could afford 10,
HDAV
Am I right in thinking you can keep 10,000 at home based on the amount of powder before needing an explosives license? I think it can be more as it depends on the load clay loads more than heavy game loads..... The weight is a bigger issue especially in older properties! I wish i could afford 10,000 Me too! I was just asking the question lol Though I probably have about 4000 across clay, game, 12, 20 and 410 that I've collected over the last 2 or 3 years. 1500 of those are some cheap Fiocchi pigeon cartridges I got a really good deal on over summer and haven't used yet but I'll be out more in January. I think 10,000 would go through the floor...

Duckandswing
I have ammo crates from the army surplus. Reasonably priced and proper sturdy. Some hold close to a thousand. I have a few of them. I don't padlock them, but could if needs be.
benspain_uk
Thanks for the measurements! Just seen this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230779528840 which means no more keys to loose! It is built to BS7558 and at 53 litres, it is slightly bigger than the other one and I don't mind having to unpack each box to fit them all in! Thanks again! Ben. HDAV
But why are you locking up cartridges?
decoy1979
I keep the slabs stacked just to the rhs of the cabinet, 12bore on the bottom, 20bore on top. Loose carts live in one of those big plastic storage tubs complete with lid in the wardrobe.
benspain_uk
I have young kids who are naturally curious - that's why I would always lock up my carts. FYI - my FEO suggested he would prefer the carts to be stored in a separate room from the gun safe. I know this is not compulsory but does seem broadly sensible and doesn't cause me much bother. figgy
That's where the trouble starts, what your feo would and wouldn't like is neither here nor there. Its what the home office guidelines state that matters. Whatever you personally decide to do to store them is up to you.
