Dr.B
Hi All, This is my first post. I really enjoy the forum & have found it a mine of information. Now I hope you can help me with a query? I purchased a new .22 HW97KT just under a week ago & have put less than 500 pellets through it. However, I have already noticed quite a deep scratch in the compression chamber. This seems to be the result of metal on metal contact. I have attached some photos (apologies for the quality) so that you can hopefully see what I mean. I have been in touch with the company I bought the rifle from & was initially told that this was ok & just the way it was made. I disagreed & said that it must be an error in the machining. They now seem to have agreed with this position, but I'm still having to send it back to be inspected before they make a decision. Can people let me know if I'm worrying about nothing or is this something I should be sending back? I just expected better from a Weihrauch. Thanks, Tom Edited March 29, 2017 by Dr.B
washerboy
Without sounding harsh it's something you will see lot of lately with Hw guns. I have had several that the internals are just ps poor . Twenty years ago they were brilliant straight from the boxs but the last few years they are rough to say the least. Get your money back and buy an airarms tx200 Edited March 29, 2017 by washerboy
Duckandswing
I had the same gun. Never saw that. I shot thousands through mine.

figgy
Looks like a casting mark that was too deep to be machined out. Very poor qaulity control. I have an older HW95 and very rarely use it, just can't get away with HW guns for some reason and seeing the newer stuff just puts me off more. Air Arms or a Theoben for me in future. Mice!
Irs like most things now days manufacturer cutting costs using cheaper materials or skill level so it looks like you got unlucky. As has already been said you should get a straight swap once they take a look at it, if your not happy ask for a refund

bruno22rf
Maybe the cylinder is laser welded steel tubing that is then machined out - if so then the welding has not been up to spec?
Dr.B
Just to clarify - the mark was not there when I first received the rifle. It has only appeared with the limited use it has had.
old man
Thoughts. Does it have a Hull Cartridge stamp on it? Could the cause be a poorly machined spring end? I had a new spring from HC a while ago, looked to have been cut from a length with an angle grinder? bruno22rf
AFAIK - the spring does not come into contact with this area of the gun - the gun uses a moving cylinder inside the main cylinder if that makes any sense - if the marks were not present when the gun was new then my guess would be that either a particle of something hard has fallen into the breach area and got jammed under the sliding cylinder ( which would cause an obvious grinding sound upon cocking/loading ) or the sliding cylinder has a burr or some kind of machining error on it - going to need stripping down to determine which but do not attempt it yourself as this will totally void any warranty claim you may have. figgy
Which part is cast.? Sorry should have said cast or forming mark. On looking again it looks like a pipe seam weld.

figgy
If it was my gun I'd be onto Weirauch Germany asking why it left the factory and asking about Germanys proud engineering history blah blah and see what they had to say. Never mind Hull who from others dealing with them are not that fussed about checking what they are selling on.
bruno22rf
Your contract, Dr.B is with the retailer, and all of your consumer rights are in relation to them. Get it to them and tell them to sort it or you will formally reject the goods - if it's less than 30 days since you bought it you have the right to do this. Dr.B
Thanks for the advice guys. Gun returned & the retailer has accepted it was faulty. No .22s in stock for 6 weeks though. So I have joined the .177 club with a significant "good will gesture". Thanks again. Edited April 1, 2017 by Dr.B
