if you talk to duncan he will point you in the right direction (in potters)

when we catch up you are welcome to have a look and a crack with my .22lr cz varmint to see what they are like.

If you got the quad i doubt you would ever change barrels.

dont forgett the anschutz

The quad is too gimmicky for me, ok its nice to change barrels in theory but then you have a scope to play with and make sure its zeroed. If you have two separate guns you get the choice of taking both with you. However if you are just looking for an HMR the CZ will shoot just as well as the quad and for a lot less money.

I mainly use the HMR barrel. The Quad also has a flush fitting magazine that doesn't foul whatever you might rest it on.

However, there are sometimes unforeseen circumstances where it seems a good idea to switch to another location. That is very easy when you have the means to use a different calibre or noise level.

Another benefit is that rather than spend decent money on a scope for each - you can justfy getting an exceptional one that remains in place between barrel changes. My sidewheel scope elevation turret needs to be turned up to number 9 (36 clicks) to get from the correct 17HMR zero to the correct zero for the .22LR with subs. You would be able to use almost any 50mm lensed scope less than 13" long on high mounts.

You also get the security of knowing you can leave the spare barrel, mag and ammo in your car without giving a crook the means of firing a gun if your car gets broken into. Consider also the idea of using the LR and you spot a fox that wont come quite close enough... but you have the HMR barrel in your jacket or bag...

I have the sako quad in .17 and a cz style in .22.

I agree barrel change largely gimmicky and most very unlikely to change it, I have to say especially in the middle of a hunt in the field, however it is an exceptionally well made and accurate rifle and oozes quality. I went for mine as it came up at a reasonable price with 10 shot mag, sak mod, leupold scope and mounts, all very nearly new for 550.

If buying new you cant beat the cz for the price even though it feels a lillle heavier and less well made than the quad. If I was buying I would go for the cz for price reasons as it will also shoot well. There is something to be said though in the simple pleasure of owning something a little rarer, knowing less people have them and hey its a sako, one of the best sporting rifles out there.

You can be guided by your FEO for ammo amounts too - I think it would be reasonable to buy 500 and keep 600 ish. West Yorks are a bit stringent with new applications, I only buy 200 at a time and hold 400. It's plenty for me, could increase it if I wanted without a problem.

Another question. What Ammio do I out on my application, also I much should I out down.

Ive got keep 600 buy 500 on my ticket. I find i hit more of what i aim at as compared to the 22lr as the .17 is so flat shooting. Plus its another vote for the cz here.. Ive got an 'american' the barrel has been chopped from 20'' to 15'' and it is still a seriously accurate piece of kit. Mine was s/h for £350 which included a t8 mod, harris bipod, sling ,simmons mag44 scope cleaning kit and rifle bag..There are some good deals out there

That sounds like a really good deal. I have a CZ varmint in .22, and I have to say I think the build quality is improved over the old Brno's I used years ago - and there's a lot of those still around. They don't have the "polish" of the more expensive rifles I'm sure, (can't speak from experience of the Sako), but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one in .17HMR, although I would err on the side of a short barrel.

I know its been said before but for 8 quid the eric brooks trigger kit transforms the cz into a much better gun as it elliminates creep and reduces trigger weight significantly. This is a truly great mod, coupled with the price of rifle and build quality it is hard to fault, makes the rifle seem like it is a much more expensive unit

Bang on, just have a look at the 5shot group I managed with a 452 with only the trigger mod above, in sporting pictures.

Ignore anyone who tells you a shorter barrel makes them less accurate, or harms the speed badly - simply isn't true

Cupra if money is not really an issue, just buy an anshutz, the best out of the box accurate gun you will buy. Don't get me wrong CZ's are a good gun, esp for the money and I will probably get one but if money isn't a big problem then get the annie. As for the quad, you can get a burris scope which has target turrets colour coded for each barrel so the scope holds multiple zero's but when I did a poll to see how many quad users changed barrels, I only think one person said they do!

I'd like to see the annie better that group I shot with my cz. Even if it did the 3 or 4 mm the shots landed closer together than mine wouldn't be worth £100/mm to me

fair enough but if money wasn't an object would you have brought the CZ or the annie? Also, surely that eric brooks mod would invalidate any warranty with the gun?

Money wasn't really an object as it happens, and I can easily return the original spring to the rifle should that be an issue, which I can't see it being.

I don't profess to know much about rifles, certainly not compared to a lot of folk on here, but I do know that results speak for themselves

Edit: before I am ripped to shreds, no I don't think the CZ is a better rifle, the annie is a much nicer rifle

fair enough, i personally only know what I have read so no hands on exp (hopefully will be changing that ) just if money was no object I would go annie, as I am a poor student should I get into rifles i will firmly go CZ without a issue.

I have the Sako and really like it. I have seen the CZ's and just think the Sako looks better and is a bit better quality. Having said that I don't think I have ever heard any CZ owners complaining about them. They appear to go in forever and are reliable.

I saw an Anchuz HMR the other day. Diddent shoot it but it looked really nice and oozed quality.

My advice is go to a shot that sells them all and see which you like the best. I doubt there will be much difference in accuracy.

Like cars really, all get you where your going in the end..
