TIGHTCHOKE
The trading price for gold is currently about £30:67 a gram, buying second hand might get you more or a better price. You are seeking an investment so buy stuff that can be melted
AVB
Don't forget that most things from a jewellers will attract VAT at 20% so you will be 20% down when you come to sell. Sovereigns are exempt but high street jewellers don't tend to sell them (other than in a nice ring ) Edited May 14, 2017 by AVB
Eyefor
..sell the voucher (if possible) or (very discretely) find a nice person on PW wanting something from the jewellers and buy it for them? You get cash, they get a discount? Edited May 14, 2017 by Eyefor

Rupert
Gold coins will have a perceived value, but come sale time you will lose out . To buy gold ,buy a "virtual" section of a large ingot held by a third party, all legit, jewelers not the best place to buy this kind of thing
four-wheel-drive
If you can buy gold coins or ingots that would be your best bet even so if you decide to sell them quickly you will get about 1/2 of what you paid rings and other stuff will be an even smaller return gold coins and ingots will go up in value but it may take a long time before you can make a profit. I no nothing about them but is they sell old watches not to use they if you get the rite ones at the rite price may be an option.
