kyska
That's a typical day for me, spot them, set up, shoot/miss one then pack up as they never return. We have so much tape in around here.

Buddy london
Sounds like some rape is ready and the shootong can begin.. with regards to harvest of remaining rape. What do farmers do in harvest time when starts raining every day? Looking wet for next 10 days so was wondering how will play out

What do farmers do in harvest time when starts raining every day? Looking wet for next 10 days so was wondering how will play out None of our Rape have been cut yet but they have done most of the winter barley which is over 300 acres , then on wet days the straw can come off and the field can be cultivated , also some of the spuds are ready to be lifted so there is no sitting about on the wet days wondering what to do next
nicknsd1978
I have two really daft questions (complete beginner here) been out for a walk around one of my fields tonight which has had the rape cut. Question 1 is what are they actually feeding on? Picking up some of the leftovers from the ground and it's just like straw...doesn't seem very appealing (although I'm not a pigeon) and question 2 is that I know stubble brings some better shooting but how long is it before the fields are ploughed thus getting rid of the stubble?.....don't mock me too much for asking these questions

Q1, they feed on the rapeseed that has been knocked off the plants and not picked up by the combine. Q2, depends, we direct drill very quickly, some farms will 'set aside' giving lots of shooting on volunteer plants. That's a hard question, you'll need to speak to your farmer. Good luck

Wilts#Dave
First field of rape to be cut on any of our permissions yielded 111 last Wednesday, fingers crossed you're in for a similar day! Rain has stopped play for a bit so that's in your favour.

If it's too wet to combine but alright for land work, crack on cultivating!

nicknsd1978
Once the field is disc'd does that mean it's shooting fun over? I suppose it's fine until the field has been ploughed?
