crossy 666
Is it just me or as anyone else noticed the price of ammo gone up. I went to my normal shop at the weekend and picked up my normal 5 boxes of 22-250 rounds and and after paying I thought that seems a bit expensive. When I got home and checked they have gone up £4 a box from last time 🤔

Vince Green
I have an empty .38 Special Box that I brought from my friend's house when he died. On it is a price label for £6.35, up till last week at our club a box of .38 Special was £15 a box now we have just restocked it is £18. It would be interesting to know how old that box is, not that old. Edited July 24, 2017 by Vince Green
drivinfish1
I've been trying to buy some privi partizan for awhile in .223 and .308. People seem to be having trouble getting them in stock at the moment. Bet when they the price has gone up as have done not so long ago. Think it's time to start reloading myself. It's the same for shotgun cartridges too at the moment and the local shop has warned they are going up again soon too

oowee
No one wants to see a price increase but it's small change in the overall cost of sport. If a box goes up £5 and the box lasts for 5 trips (4 shots at a trip) its just a pound an outing. If I take the 12g an average outing can vary in price from £0 to £55 and that cost is determined by the number of birds I can shoot (or miss). Mate has started reloading but chosen to use expensive heads and the cost per round has gone up rather than down
sako751sg
Do any of you read this thing called a "newspaper" that costs £1.60. Im sure it cost less years ago and I hear that it may have clues as to why inside? ? Because the page 3s have bigger ****?
marktattoo
Prices for rimfire, centrefire and shotgun cartridges have all gone up in the last couple of years. I shoot all three and now getting to the stage where I have cut down on the number of rounds I shoot. I reload my own centrefire but even doing that if you use quality components there isn't that much cost wise to be saved, although increases the accuracy of the firearm. I wonder how long this can continue as thinking of giving up shooting certain disciplines to save money and if that does happen it would also include giving up club memberships. I am sure I am not the only one in this situation and thinking along these lines. It can only be a bad thing for shooting in the long term
saddler
Probably one BIG factor on prices is the near monopoly of the importers - or LACK of choice as to WHO you deal with Look at the main US ammo brands - such as the ones mentioned in the thread - one person at the importing firm controls the UK prices/margins on these brands. Fair? Either the UK market is an open economy or it's sewn up to have the consumer over a barrel...

walt1980
I think with the rifle ammo it's down to carriage costs as well. Local rfd said he'd bought 100 rounds of something for a customer and the carriage was around £60! Couriers are charging like a wounded bull which all adds to it. Carriage is certainly a bigger problem than it ever has been in the past but also, we have no UK producer of C/F ammo so the importers can charge what they like. Even if shotgun cartridges are produced here all the components are imported. Edited July 27, 2017 by Vince Green

Vince Green
A lot of the American ammunition makers are contracting as well
