turbo33
So went to the farm to collect some wood. It's been really quiet up there, despite the crops coming off in between this relentless rain. Last week, not a pigeon or Corvidto be see despite the rape being harvested. Really weird! Two years ago, the pigeons were leap frogging in front of the header!! So yesterday, on a log mission, I noticed a good flight line on to some wheat stubble. This was 3 to 5pm. I thought that would tie in nicely with my afternoon today. Logging til 3 then a couple of hours on the stubble. There were good groups on the rape stubble, but very spooky and out in the middle of the field. To be honest, I had little enthusiasm for dragging all the gear into the middle of the rape field, so stuck to my instincts, that they would leave that field and I could catch them on the wheat stubble on their way home!! So the 410 hushpower a d the chainsaw went into the truck with 50 homeloads and a few Eley subs. Nothing happened until 3 on the dot, then the tap opened! I had a great 2 hours. The birds coming home, couldn't resist a last feed and at times wished I had a 2nd barrel! But actually, so often quality is better than quantity and it was great fun hurriedly cramming another shell up the spout to bag another! I was using mostly some homeloads, following a recipe, kindly given to me by another pw member. Great results, and finished on 30 for 45 carts. With a couple of those. Made it to the trees then dropped! Mr and mrs foxy can have those as a treat!

motty
Good report. Using a single barrel would drive me nuts, though.
Cranfield
That was an excellent result and well thought out. I like it when reports demonstrate the flexibility of the .410 in the right hands, its an underrated gauge IMO. The single barrel would cause me some angst, but it obviously didn't bother you. pigeon controller
Well done , great report. I would think that with one shot you tend to select you targets well and make sure.
turbo33
Thanks for the replies. Glad you're interested in some 18gram shooting! I didn't mention that the reason for using the hushy was as usual, the area of sensitivity. I had a restricted angle of shooting and was 100 yards from the main road and houses. It was the sensible thing to do at the cost of a bigger bag! However!! Might just go out with the 410 0/u tomorrow as it's soiii much fun! Just need to get work out if the way first!!
