16BoreFan
Just out of curiosity, anyone shot a black squirrel? And where in the country are they found? Just watched the Shooting Show on YouTube and there were a few running about a feed ride with greys

FOXHUNTER1
Black squirrels are found at Audley End estate Saffron Walden in Essex. I used to go stalking there with Geoff Garrod who is the keeper and is always on the shooting show. I have seen them there with my own eyes , they don't shoot them I think. Stimo22
Have seen several at Woburn which is the Duke of Bedfords land. He was one of the landowners who introduced them
Longstrider
Yep, often used to see them around Woburn when I was in that neck of the woods. Saw a couple of whities there as well once but they didn't last long as good mate of mine was keen to have a couple of them stuffed and mounted. This gave me opportunity, motive, and I certainly had the means, so they fell over. Black ones, white ones and just about everything in-between .. they're all just colour variants of the common grey squirrel. Not, as some folks think, a different species. Aled
If anyone shoots a naturally black squirrel and they don't need the tail, can I have it please to make some sea trout flies??? I'll quite happily tie you a few flies in return. Tight Lines Aled
Vince Green
There are hundreds around the NW fringes of London but specifically Ruislip woods and out through Harefield and Chalfont. They are not actually black they are very much darker grey and its a natural mutation. Some can appear brownish causing people to think they have seen a red squirrel. First one I noticed was about ten years ago
