wymberley
I'm well outside of my comfort zone here, so could anyone kindly suggest a soft(er) shooting 25 or 26 g, 7 or 7&1/2 shot, fibre, 2&3/4" max chamber, 20 bore cartridge? Many thanks.

I figured that the mine of information that PW is, that someone could give me a steer in the right direction.

One of my favourites in 12 bore. The only issue is the fact that they stopped doing these in 7s for both the 12 and 20 bores.
sabel25
Is this for game or clay JC's own xtreme game are a soft cart employing the gordon recoil system made by Gamebore so they will have a similar cartridge I use their 12g ones on certain walkup days and have the 20g but have'nt got round to using them yet If you were any where near you could have some to try

I did look at a 20 bore s56e recently on guntrader, as I said in the other thread I already have the same in a 12g flavour, a nice gun but with to much cast for me and assumed that the 20 may be the same, I also wondered about the lightness, i have a single 20 which is too light [like waving a stick about] also recoil may be a bit severe with any heavier cart, I have now put a deposit on a McNab highlander in a 20g, weighing in at just over 6lb

I've done a search, however, only to find there is no other offering available to the same spec's. 9 minutes ago, sabel25 said: Yer it's that length of elastic your other half has tied to you 20 minutes ago, islandgun said: I did look at a 20 bore s56e recently on guntrader, as I said in the other thread I already have the same in a 12g flavour, a nice gun but with to much cast for me and assumed that the 20 may be the same, I also wondered about the lightness, i have a single 20 which is too light [like waving a stick about] also recoil may be a bit severe with any heavier cart, I have now put a deposit on a McNab highlander in a 20g, weighing in at just over 6lb I don't know, look what Harry Potter did with a wand! lancer425
Do they do a 20 bore Gordon system case, i never seen any but like gordon system interested to know if they do em.
dougall
RC SIPE 26g 7s..great shell. Also use the 28g 6s and there is a difference in the shoulder prod dept. They are not cheap cartridges but are excellent. Think your only other option is Lyevale Express but for some reason I dont like them.

It's not the case It's a special wad that is in the head of the cartridge Exclusive to Gamebore Developed by Baschieri and Pellagri of Italy Reducing recoil by 15% Not sure if you can buy them separately Hull have a similar system in some of their carts Edited February 7, 2019 by sabel25

I did use Supreme Game many years ago but had another look at them recently - 12 bore - and the shot wasn't any where near the previous standard. However, these, 25g, are one of the 3. I figure that any UK maker that produces a game 7 shot deserves some support even if it's just a trial run and you never know.
matone
I`ve found Eley CT 24gr fibre to be smooth shooting in my 687 20b. Cheddite 24gr 7.5 fibre (7) are much livelier but very good on partridge & pigeons. Edited February 7, 2019 by matone

butchdickason
I use Hull High Pheasant 25gr 5 or 6 fibre in my 687EL 20 and they are super soft in my gun, the Sipes knock hell out of me, my grandson also 687 20 shoots 28 or 30gm Sipes and loves them, he is 4 stone heavier so can absorb the recoil better than me. Westley
I have used a few thousand Eley CT's in 21 and 24 for Instruction through a 6lbs. 3ozs. Beretta silver pig 20 bore without any complaints of recoil from clients. I am now using a Browning 20 bore, which at almost 7lbs is a touch heavier. I have been using 24 gram Cheddite 7 1/2 's for clays and RC Sipes in 25 gram 6's for game. I have also fitted a 12mm Italian 'squidgy' rubber pad. I have not had any recoil issues with any of these cartridges.

Everything that looks feasible is either 24 or 25g so provided there's nothing unnecessarily punchy, one of the three that I've found should suit. I do think that if it was my gun, which I often shoot 100 sporting with, I would look at having a 'soft' type recoil pad fitted. The Italian made pad that I fitted was under £20 and I fitted it myself, after removing the hard plastic heel plate which is on the Brownings.
