Westward
The sad reality is that a high percentage of the "underlying medical conditions" are due to lifestyle choices and therefore mostly avoidable. If you don't believe that, drop in to Tesco or Asda sometime and just look around. Virtually everyone is overweight, many massively so, and their trolleys are filled with trash like spaghetti hoops, soft drinks, sweets, cakes, biscuits, cheap white sliced etc. About the only half decent food in the average trolley is a packet of frozen peas. My wife says that if everyone ate and kept fit like we do, the NHS would be a quarter the size. I agree with her.

Apparently 43% of the U.K. population have an underlying medical condition. Ok not all of these are conditions that will increase the risk to Coronavirus, arthritis for example, but even so I was shocked that nearly half of us have an ongoing medical condition. No wonder the NHS costs a fortune to keep going. How can we change this as it doesn’t sound sustainable to me. You could get rid of women. Women have 75% of the autoimmune diseases. Whilst being generally hardier than men and less susceptible to infectious disease they live longer with chronic conditions. It's the price of having two X chromosones. old man
If this finally confirmed as a Zoonosis there will probably not be any or little resistance in the human population at the base level of infection? Interesting and quite scary?

I don't reckon they would be much good at ironing shirts, but then again if there were no women would a man need a freshly pressed shirt? 🤔 I suspect a massive epidemic of utter skankiness would ensue

Ok not all of these are conditions that will increase the risk to Coronavirus, arthritis for example, That depends on what type of arthritis and how it's treated. As an autoimmune condition, RA is not curable at this time and can only be managed with powerful meds which have a debilitating effect on what used to be called the "constitution". In other words people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis are more susceptible to infection,. are more ill and for longer. We have a friend who's had bad RA for over 30 years and he's terrified just now as he knows the virus would kill him. He's fully self isolating and insists that his wife doesn't leave the house. I'm waiting to see what immunosuppressant drugs classify some as part of the vulnerable group, i expect just by the numbers mentioned that methotrexate administered in doses for RA isn't one of those, but i'm hoping that none of the rest are too.
